My roommate and I moved into a townhome Dec. 1. We were not aware that we did not have hot water. Our hot water would last for 1 minute at best. We called the office immeditaly. They sent a man out to look at the hot water heater. He did not seem to know the problem. He left without fixing anything. Maintence men continued to come out and look at the problem, but never fixed anything.
After 3 months of this, Quality Hill finally sent out a plumber who said there was a big problem, though did not name it specifically. He said it would be expensive to fix. After this, the management of the apartment complex changed. Our problem was put off for yet another month. We became so frustrated, my roommate stopped paying rent to ge t some attention. We realize this may have not been the right channel to go through, yet we were uninformed. The Quality Hill staff agreed with our decision to not pay rent, and said they would do the same thing.
We continued to report our problem, which was ignored because no one could solve it. A month later we were filled an eviction notice for not paying rent.
We came to a resolution with the management that they would cancel our lease without eviction if we paid our back rent. We are now loaded with moving costs as well as finding a new place to live. We are students who really do not have extra money to spare for issues like this. We did not want to move; we were happy with our home. Yet, we cannot live without hot water.
We feel that we have been taken advantage of and treated extremely poorly. This is a horrible place to live because the management takes full advantage of its residents.
We feel we deserve some sort of reimbursement for these issues. Yet, we do not know our true rights.
The management refused to let us speak to the true property owners, who are assumingly unaware of the reality of this situation.
