I called Naperville Courtesy Plumbing on Feb. 11 when an inside pipe froze and burst in my home. It was about 3:30 in the morning, so I turned off the water in the basement and I left a message for someone to call me as soon as they opened in the morning. I received a call and someone came out about 11:00.

In the phonebook, it says that if you mention the ad, you will get $25 off your bill. The guy came and I showed him where the wall was wet in an upstairs bedroom. He then came downstairs and began tearing out the garage ceiling, which is where most of the water was going, but it had nothing to do with the burst pipe.

When my neighbor came over, she found it strange that he was in the garage, not up in the room where the pipe froze. She asked him why he was out there and he said they usually started downstairs and moved their way up. I can understand that if the location of the problem is unknown, which was not the case here.

She directed him upstairs to the wall that I had already shown him, yet when he came down, he claimed that I hadn't shown him the wet spots on the wall. That was a lie. About 30 to 45 minutes was wasted cutting out the garage ceiling. When he finished, I paid him the $607.30. I thought that was a lot, but I was so grateful to know that it was fixed, considering my house was full of water.

I will say that I was extremely grateful to him for making me aware of the fact that the piping used did not meet code and he showed me how he could tell that. He also included it on my bill. At that time, I was okay with the situation, as I had a lot of work ahead of me.

Later that afternoon, I went upstair and the bathtub was dripping quite a bit of hot water. This was on the opposite side of the wall where the pipe froze. I called them back and asked if they could please come back and I assured him that I was aware that this was a different problem.

I explained that it was critical that they come back that day or the very first thing the next morning because Servicemaster would not start the cleanup as long as there was still another plumbing problem. I had to call at least 6 times and FINALLY at about 4:00 the next day, a guy came out.

I told him that my nephew, who is a plumber, but too far awayto help me, said that a piece of ice probably cracked the cartridge. He went up and looked at it and said that was exactly what had happened. He went out and got the part, he was in my home for 20 minutes TOPS and he charged me $481.77!!!

I said in pure shock, "You've got to be kidding." He said, "Oh yeah, those problems with cartridges can get you." I asked how much the cartridge cost, and he responded, "Oh, we don't do it that way." I later found out that the cartridge cost about $40!!! So, for 20 minutes of labor, I paid $441.77!!!

I contacted the company right after the first day and asked about the $25 discount and Karen said I should have brought it up when I received the bill the first day. I told her I had mentioned it on the phone message and that I simply forget when he was there that day. After all, I hadn't gone to sleep at all and I had a house that was flooded on the 2nd floor, the main level, the entire garage, and the majority of my basement!!!

She said she would talk to the owner and get back to me, but never did. I then contacted them five or six times asking for an itemized bill for both visits, especially the second one. Every single time I called, I was assured that I would receive an itemized bill and a call from one of the owners. It never happened.

I finally contacted the BBB and you can see that they never responded to them either. I then contacted Discover Card to investigate this for me. It took quite a while, but I was given my $481.77 back because they refused to respond to Discover Card. I wouldn't respond either if I ripped off a customer like they did!!!

Unfortunately, I was charged for the first bill, but Discover Card gave me back the $25. I find that very sad that Discover Card didn't make them give it back to me, but I got it back. The only thing I was asking for back besides the $25 on the first bill was the labor time he wasted cutting out the garage ceiling instead of the wall where the pipe burst in the upstairs bedroom.

I will be taking that part to arbitration through Discover Card, as I disagree with their decision to pay Naperville Courtesy Plumbing the entire amount. Again, the only part I disagree with paying is the $25 and the labor for cutting out the garage ceiling. The rest is completely up to me to pay.

IN A NUTSHELL, THIS COMPANY IS A RIPOFF!!! The most surprising part to me is that they pride themselves on being a family owned CHRISTIAN business that specialized in CUSTOMER SATISFACTION!!! I don't know, but somehow those words don't go with the service I received from them.

Family owned christian business customer satisfaction

This company is a complete ripoff!!! Do not use them unless you have the same dishonest values as they have and a lot of money to burn!!!
