Leaving anthem, arizona...
About 30 months a go my wife and i decided to purchase a home in anthem from del webb (pulte-homes) we gave them approx. $50,000 which surprisingly went directly into their bank account not an escrow company.
This was the first indication that they did things alittle different than most arizona builders. Next we tried to examine their work during construction. Upon finding defects, we were told they had not started quality control yet.
Having spent many years in aerospace mfg. I was puzzled by this philosophy. Broken trusses that required replacement were just patched-after their engineering department reviewed their damages. Stonger than the original they said.
I began to wonder why all the builders did not break their trusses and strengthen them by patching with 2 x 4's. When the move-in date came we were met @ the house by approx.
10 workers-all trying to paint-patch-fix defects that were apparent. They convinced us to close that day and everything would be fixed. We did and many of their contractors were back more than 5 times to fix the same problem, example, our roof leaked and after 7 trys we decided to join the class action with the miller law firm.
Prior to this my wife and myself pleaded with ben redman and ann maruncci to please address these issues. Their answer was to work with the contractors that performed in a sub-standard manner previously.
Today, 6/3/02, we received an assessment for almost $400 which they (pulte-del webb) say is needed to insure a firm financial footing.
We were going to stay here, even with the construction defects, but are now unable to afford such luxury. The courts seem to look the other way when it comes to getting del webb (pulte) into court to answer charges.
I am pushing to have have a re-vote of the american home builders to see if this (anthem) is still voted the number one planned community. I think not.
