My husband and I recently (Aug 1998) had a home built by Centex Home Corp.in Florida. From the beginning, we were mislead by the sales staff and mistreated by the construction foreman. The home was built with substandard materials and sloppy workmanship.
Paint on walls is thin and chips easily. Some areas not in obvious view are not painted at all. Footboards and door trims are chipped, cracked, and dented. Excess caulk is used everywhere to fill gaps, cracks and chips, and is smeared onto walls, tile, fixtures, and cabinets. Dents are present in the drywall from damage during construction. Excess texture material is present with drips and globs found on walls, trim and plant shelves.
We wrote to the division president in Maitland, Florida in October 1998 and received a courtesy call but no repairs.in April 1999 we faxed our complaints to the warranty office. They came out to look but later called and left a message saying they wouldn't do anything for us. We wrote to the company CEO in July 1999 to express our dissatisfaction with the construction workmanship. We even sent pictures and requested repairs for the items listed above.
We received a two line response from the warranty office in Florida stating again that they would not do any repairs. Then we wrote a complaint letter to the Better Business Bureau in Texas where their main office is and received the same two line response saying they will not do anything for us. They will not reply to our phone calls/faxes or letters anymore.
Please save yourself the misery and do not buy a Centex Home because they do terrible work and provide no customer service to the homebuyer at all.
