Contracted with Home Depot to Measure and Install Double Pane Windows x3 plus a Slider. Workman, John, comes out says windows too small but can "rig" it so it will work but there's not enough trim to complete the job same day (March 16th). He called earlier in the week saying he would be here between 8-9 am that Friday... At 0915 on that Friday I called the store enquiring when the workman would arrive. Leslie at HomeDepot says he's at the store picking up materials for a different job and he should be at my house by 1000. He arrives at approx 10am and says, "the windows are too small" and calls the store to ask if they have a "kit" to allow proper installation. They tell him no... He leaves, says he has to get some supplies, and returns about an hour later with a whole bunch of caulking!
He manages to get the windows in but the only window he "completes" has caulking so thick on the FRONT window that it is smeared all over my painted wood trim. Can you say RED-NECK picture window?!? He tries to get me to sign something for "the work he has completed" I refuse and call the store and speak with Tracy. Tracy tells me she will look into it and I'll get a call back. I get a call back from Megan (in deliveries) to drop off a new slider for the one that doesn't fit. I explain that none of the windows fit properly and would someone call back that can take care of this.
I call corporate ref#4323113 @ 800-654-0688 and talk to Monica at ext 4323113. She says it's clearly unexceptable and someone will call me back on Monday. No one does. I do get ahold of a Mr Dennis Cleary, Manager of installation, after calling a manager, Mr Campbell, and another manager Javier. He says he will come out with the owner of the contracting company "Tim". They won't give me the name of that Contracting company nor will they give me their Contractor's #. They say my complaint needs to be directed to Home Depot's contractor number. OK, so they come out and I show them the sloppy work in front and that I can stick my finger in between the edge of their window and my sill and explain that I know this isn't correct. (I had previously had work done by American Glass in Napa... They were wonderful!)
Today I finally am able to speak to Mr Cleary about what their resolution is... He says, "they are simply going to replace the slider with the right size and install trim to "cover" the gap and caulking should be able to finish it off nicely." The kicker is... They are sending the same guy, John, who screwed up the first installation. I told him that was unacceptable, DOUBLE PANE WINDOWS are supposed to insulate the house to provide energy savings, which that would not provide... He said I could complain to corporate all I like they wouldn't do anything. I called Corporate, per Marie (who refused to give me her extension) he's right. He says I can take it to court and file complaints all I like he will do nothing to remedy this issue. Direct quote, "you can get statements from PG&E, another contractor, or anyone else stating the windows are too small and we will do nothing further then I've already offered."

So, I'm making my voice heard here. I will go to small claims court and file there, I will contact consumer affairs and file a report there, and I will file a complaint with the California Contractor's Board. I've already sent an e-mail complaint to CALL3, the local news consumer advocate.
Anybody have any other ideas? This is my new hobby.
