Palm Harbor Homes pressured my wife and I to close on a home they ordered in August prior to us selling the house we were living in out of state. We told them that our house had not sold yet but they insisted that we could not delay the closing. The only advantage of this action was so they could get paid.
Palm Harbor Homes ordered the house based soley on our excellent credit rating instead of waiting for us to get a construction mortgage.
One of the first documents Palm Harbor Homes wants you to sign is an arbitration clause. Do not sign this form. You will be waiving your rights to sue them if things go bad.
Being that our home had not sold yet a representitive from Palm Harbor Homes attempted to get my wife and I to produce a fake letter. This letter was to state that we were collecting rent on the out of state house. This would offset our expense to income ratio. To comply with this request would have been an act of mortage fraud. Of course, nobody from Palm Harbor would dare to put this in writing or admit making such a request.
It is now September and we are still not moved into our new house. We are paying rent every month to live and all our belongings are in storage.
It has taken forever for Palm Harbor Homes to finish this
project.in the mean time I have written letters and called requesting relief due to their habitial delays.
All I can say is that the general manager at Palm Harbor Homes in Lynchburg Virginia is a condescending, arrogant, egotist. I strongly suggest that any potential home buyer drive right by Palm Harbor Homes and shop elsewhere.
Once you sign that paperwork, you are just another number. Forget about customer service. Its non existent. Plus, they will tell you anything to get you to buy from them and then deny it later. Believe me I learned this first hand. They told us that they would have the house finished by Christmas or shortly after in 2005. Don't believe a word they say.
