Signed contract gave ck 40% of balance construction began on April 17 laborers worked maybe 4 hours a day, inspectors laughed at work - did not pass inspection as they were not even close to new codes - construction inspector shows up at site, i'm there nobody from co is show inspector the site and he gives me about two pages of items that are incorrect - leave work to see if anybody from co is there, one person and he informs me that steve met with the inspector and all has been passed - informed worker that I was here, steve was not and that he needs to be here ASAP - worker quickly gets steve on the phone and informs steve what i told him - steve shows up about an hr later along with two other laborers (steve, ernie) - steve says that everything is okay, that he will talk to the inspector, ernie/steve steps in and informs steve that the inspector is correct as to the new codes, that what is done will need to be redone to meet code - rough inspections are completed = however, in bathroom pipes for water to come in but no pipe for drainage and outside wall has plywood up there, not sealed or firewalled = nothing - how could have it passed inspections? I call steve does not answer leave page with 911 - jeff (laborer) calls and steve picks up immediately - electrician (rodney), ernie, steve all have called me informing me that liens will be put on house due to steve has not paid them - jeff also informs me that he has not been paid... Steve finally shows up at site and I inform him of these calls of not being paid - we go into house where Jeff is and confront him with his non-payment of work completed - find out he has been paid, $20 here/$20 there - jeff and steve inform me that they have agreed that jeff would receive $1000 at end of week it was stated that if no payment from steve has been rec'd that i would pay him (this was agreed) - end of week comes and steve does not pay, i call leave message informing steve that jeff as asked me for this money half in ck and half in cash - if nothing heard will do so at end of day - called steve again, still no answer, run to bank give cash to Jeff and a ck - next day jeff and another laborer attempt to cash check and nobody would do so as jeff does not have ID - take ck back and give cash - jeff is now denying pymt of this money and steve is stating that this was not agreed to - jeff would say one thing and steve would say another - grew tired of this game and lost it - jeff does not come back and steve states that he has been denied access to the jobsite and hence has not completed the job - my son was here for that reason, to let him in.By this time, have realized that personal items are missing from house and garage - informed steve that he can complete job as long as there is a "babysitter" on my behalf as I do not trust him or his laborers - drywall was put up, did not pass code; jeff and another ee took incorrect drywall down only to find out that there was no insulation in the walls (outside or inside walls) - plan that was submitted to the city included a closet at the actual site there was no closet framed out - there was approx 5 in from toilet to corner of shower, this 5 in was a pathway to get to the sink - this was redone - however, not inspected... Vents were not covered, hence scraps, dust, and other items are currently in the ducts, extension cords throughout the house to keep my refrigerator, stove, and microwave to work, no drain pipes for the sink, insulation was incorrect so they had to redo. The time that i gave 40% of the balance steve and jeff purchased material (wood floor planks, insulation, copper pipes, window, doors, 2X4's, pedestal sink, toilet, plumbing material, electric material, 2x8's) this was all put in my front yard on the grass - rained = insulation could not be used... Purchased more insulation only to find out did not meet code, purchased more insulation - jeff would ask if he could begin work at 8 am - no problem, jeff would show up, if i was lucky, in the afternoon, only to leave by 3 which equaled a total day of work of approx 3 hrs, some days there would be nobody... Jeff said a friend and child were in an accident and passed away and steve backed his story up - checked obits and newspaper for article = nothing found - found out by another ee where he really was = jeff/steve lied - scott and rodney arrive at house to give me a copy of the claim of lien that they said they filed (one for each of them) and informed that ernie would be doing one as well - at the time that I lost it (end of may 06) and nobody has returned, i go to work come home that evening only to find that the wood floor and other material that was in the front lawn is now gone - ask neighbors and was informed that steve took it - had already called steve and nothing was mentioned to me about this... Steve was waiting (stalking) until i left for work to get the material - left me with dead grass area and trash in the front yard and two lawn ornaments missing from my front yard - steve denies taking the ornaments and sort of danced around taking the material as well, but then admitted to taking it has he states it is his... So I have paid him a bit over $10k and the laborers have not been paid and the material has been taken = had already been in contact with his lawyer - steve stated to me that the 40% was for material and then states that the 40% was for labor and then states that the money was for something else - steve has told his lawyer (nancy) that he is 90% done, I informed nancy that it is not 90% done = the drywall still needs to be replaced, the insulation needs to be installed, the floors need to be in the room for a minimum of three days prior to insulation and that I have heard that phrase before. Left for MI for a quick trip - informed them that upon my return drywall would be up - upon my return it was as I left and my son informed me that nobody was there for the entire time - so a week i will not accept - also steve is asking for add'l money... Stay away from this company unless you enjoy drama, lies, thieves, fraud, want a job incorrectly done, or don't mind slop or basically want an unfinished job... If you do, then this company is the one for you! Stay away, is my strongest suggestion.
