About three months ago, Ali Shadbeh answered my ad for a temporary roomie. (We take on boarders, but plan to have a bigger family starting this summer). He told us he had a man staying with him who needed a temporary place to stay. He told us the man was an employee of his and had income to pay rent. He understood clearly that the situation was temporary, telling us that he was remodeling and needed to close his boarder's room for a while.
The man staying with Ali seemed (and is) quite nice. We took him in.
Shortly after that, Ali stopped providing this man with work, meaning he can't pay rent.
Now that the time has come for him to take his employee back, Ali has refused to do so. Though we shook hands on the arrangement months ago, he now says that if nothing was in writing he can do as he likes.
Ali Shadbeh lied to us on two counts:
1. He lied regarding his intentions with his former employee. This has forced my family to change our plans due to lack of space.
2. He lied regarding our roomie's ability to pay his rent. This has cost my family nearly 1000 dollars in lost income thus far.
Because he didn't sign anything, Ali Shadbeh seems to think he can forget his earlier promises. I guess I was naive to think his word was good enough.
If you do business with a real estate agent named Ali Shadbeh, be careful that he writes his promises down.
