We Had the same Experience as Jessica, We were promised many things when we were pitched to build with MWJ, none of them came without a battle. First of all we built a copy of their model with some upgrades, we had to challenge all the way, things such as smaller windows installed than what were in the model and then told that the wrong wondows were in the model and they were not to be that big and the model windows were to be removed, B.S.
We had walls and doorways that were not plumb, one door had to be built into place because it would not fit, we caught this during framing and were told dont worry everything will be fine, you dont see your car being built, you see it finished and dont notice any mfg. Flaws, and this is what happens when the home owner gets involved in the bldg process, what B.S.
Our windows leak air and SOUND, but that is "in Spec", our siding rattles, but that is "normal for Vinyl", we requested notice prior to carpet so we could vacuum as all they do is sweep, we received no call until the carpet was laid, and to top it off no one swept but they swore to me 2" from my nose that they personally did, I had to believe until I had carpet pulled in bedroom by builder to find splotches of drywall mud, dirt, and a 16 penny nail, not to mention that none of the floor seams were ground as stated in the contract. Our windows and all pvc plumbing melted in the basement as the drywallers left the can heaters on high all weekend, sap was running from the studs, the builder tried to blame me as I would not allow him to use my furnace as a construction heater, they claimed they do it all the time, Well, IT VOIDS WARRANTY OF ANY FURNACE!
We had to close anyway as we had a locked interest rate, after closing, we took many days from work to meet subs that did not show up until we demanded they come on saturdays, then a couple did, but not all. We wrote to attorney general and BBB, MW Blamed everything on us saying we were too picky and they did everything that they could, even worked saturdays to please us, what a crock, but that was enough for them, We received letters from both saying that if we had more concerns to write again otherwise cases would be closed. I had same problem with return phone calls, never returned calls.
There are many other familys with the same issues, some MUCH worse. It has been 5 years since our home was built, I gave up on MW and fixed problems myself.
BUYER BEWARE, it is not as sweet as it appears, MW builds cheap houses and pays its subs Poorly, so that is what you get.
