My husband and I purchased our 1st home just 10 months ago. We are in our early 30's and have waited years to make the jump from renting to home ownership. We wanted our piece of the AMERICAN DREAM. We searched and searched, and finally found what we thought was the perfect 1st home. It was small enough for the 2 of us (and our cat); the development offered no maintenance living by including lawn maintenance/snow removal in our monthly homeowner's dues and a small community with a diverse group of homeowners both young and old. Because we were anxious about getting a home quickly, instead of building, we opted to purchase what the builder refers to as a Home in a Hurry or a spec home that was built to builder specifications so that a home buyer would not have to wait for a home to be built, but would allow for a home buyer to experience a New home. The home we selected was completed and approved for occupancy in October; we purchased the home in May.
Since being in our home, we have experienced things that no NEW HOME buyer should experience, but again, as I research more and more, this seems to be the new NORM for new home builders. Shoddy construction, MOLD, poor quality materials, lot not graded properly, Major cracks in my foundation (which leak), less than quality windows that have broken seals allowing heat to seep out and cold air to seep in, cracking driveways, poor insulation, doors and windows not locking or fitting in their casing properly, countertops not attached properly, siding not installed properly which is voiding that warranty, drywall cracks, inproper floor pad under carpet, and on and on.
We met with the Builders Project Manager in early March, to discuss our situation and to see just what if anything the builder was willing to do, they are not taking responsibility for most of our issues, but have asked that we allow them the opportunity to "fix" some of the issues. The problem is that the leaking foundation issues can not be fixed, they can only have a band-aid placed on them, and in May when our 1 year warranty is up will no longer be the builders issue, but our issue.
McBride takes advantage of young and old!!! Do not buy a mcbride & son home!!! The current Mayor of the City we live in works for the builder, and has allowed things to "slide through" in the construction process of this builder.
They say that they stand behind their homes, but this is NOT the case. They run from them after they are built.
