American Woodmark Cabinets poor quality, craftmanship and construction Ripoff

We recently purchased and had delivered the American Woodmark cabinets that we had ordered from Home Depot. Upon delivery all packages looked in good condition, on further inspection of the products inside the boxes we found an alarming amount of issues.

Minor scratches on a couple of the cabinets, improperly packaged items and gouges. What became evident after our contractor inspected the cabinets was worse. The cabinets weren't even squared. There were side panels that were even attached, the cabinets were assembled poorly.in good cabinet work most of the joints will have glue in them, on American Woodmark cabinets the glue is applied to the interior edge and goes around the staples that holds the pieces together absolutely no glue in the jooints themselves. There was doors that the finishing was not completed, and others were not properly sanded. There is no good structual support to the cabinets that were delivered to my home. The upper cabinets that were to be hung had a single engineered wood strip on the back to put screws into, the only thing is the piece of engineered wood was poorly attached to the back of the cabinet. We are going to have solid granite counter tops and with the way these cabinets were constructed they will not hold the wieght, our kitchen island requires 5ft x 5ft x 5ft piece of granite (this will be heavey).

The real piss me off was the fact that there was pre-drilled holes in every frame, even the frame opposite of the side that held the hinges and door. I was told by the factory rep that was visiting Home Depot that day that all the fram work is prefabricated, so the holes are supposed to be there in case the consumer wants to switch the door to the opposite side. Well that was real funny considering the upper cabinets also had pre-drilled holes and the door style was cathedral. Which means up can't reverse the door because the arched portion would than have to be on the bottom and upside down. I had to tell Home Depot at the time of ordering what side I wanted to have my doors hung on, so why would I have holes all over the place?

The factory rep said that is what the putty is for, well guess what, I did not spend $8000.00 worth on cabinets to be filling holes for three days.

Watch out for Home Depot. They had told me that the American Woodmark cabinet was on the same line of quality as KraftMaid. This had changed my mine from Kraft Maid to the American Woodmark, as well as the delivery time was shorter and they were less expensive. Well it is not, as I have found out from 3-4 installers and cabinet supply companys (the little guys) that the American Woodmark cabinets are very poor quality (to put it nicely).

For the last 2 weeks I have been contacting Home Depot to have these cabinets picked up, returned and a credit to be issued.

It wasn't until 6/16/05 that an RGA was issued by American Woodmark.

Buyer beware the American Woodmark brand of cabinets is unsafe and is not worth any amount of savings considering you have to add additional supports to even use them.

This Problem with cabinets has set my remolding project back by over 3 months and has stamped out any hopes of having my project done in a "reasonable" time frame. Th re-tiling of my master bath can not even begin until the cabinets are here, the kitchen can't have a templet done for the granite until the cabinets are installed and my whole family and any guest all have to share one bathroom. American Woddmark has put a very bad taste in my mouth and I hope people will read this e-mail and not do bussiness with this company to save themselves heart ache and grief.
