Carpet One
Ripoff unfair misrepresentation of product and procedures used to install product

On 8-13-03 we entered into an agreement with Carpet One to replace our carpet with laminate flooring. We were told by our salesperson Jerry that it would take one day to do the whole job. The first day, the technicians came out to pull up the old carpet and put a material down to level the concrete floor. This had to dry over night.
When the installers came to install the floor, they acted like they couldn't lay it the way it was normally laid and had to call a consultant. (The installers acted like they didn't want to do the work and were hard to communicate with since they spoke little English.) It was finally agreed it would be laid a different way and took a whole day to be done. (Two days now, not one as we were told by Jerry.)

We had to have a place repaired in front of the refrigerator within the first month. (We had this flooring put in the hallways, the kitchen and the livingroom.) The non-English speaking people practically accused us of pouring water on the floor etc. It took all day just to fix this small area because they had to take boards out all the way into the livingroom. They used the same boards by pounding them back into place. (Is this a good seal when you do this? That's what we want to know.) We started to notice in different parts of the house, that the floor was buckling a little. We questioned this and again repair people came out. This went on for a few months when a part of the floor in the hallway started to really buckle up. After having everyone out including a plumber, we were found to have a water leak. Again, Carpet One came out and pulled up the bad area and replaced it. We started to notice other areas coming up and a little and wanted it fixed.

This company was recommended to us by our insurance co. State Farm so we have gotten them involved. What it boils down to now is that Carpet One is now saying we have too much moisture for this type of floor and should go with ceramic tile.

Why didn't Carpet One do a moisture test in the beginning? The whole reason we had to remove the carpet was because of a toilet backing up. They said they don't do moisture tests. Isn't this convenient? So now, I am out two deductibles I paid to State Farm and the extra money I paid to go with the laminate floor instead of carpet. I don't feel anymore money should come out of my pocket except the difference for the laminate versus the ceramic tile.

I have stuff packed up since 8 until this can be resolved. Right now, we are dealing with Larry who is a Manager at Carpet One and he has no plans to rectify this.

What to do??? We are so frustrated and are thinking about taking legal action.
