Continuous Problems - Gateway FX6801

I would like to return my FX6801 for a refund. Since I purchased the FX6801 in September I have had no more than 3 or 4 consecutive days of trouble free computing with this unit. It all started the day after I unpacked the unit and installed it. The first day went fine but the next morning when I went to the computer I found a black screen that said there was not boot media. I contacted Tech Support. The Tech had me download a file using my Toshiba laptop computer, burn a disc, and reboot the FX. That worked, but every other day or so the problem recurs. And I mean every other day or so. No exaggeration. I must reboot the unit with the disc to get it going.

After the first couple of times that happened I thought I should make a recovery disc. However, I could not make a disc due to error 0x205. I contacted Tech Support and was given a website to download a patch. But the ACER link was invalid. No matter though because the unit went back to the “no boot media” thing.

I was away on business for about a month but when I returned in late January this year, I fired the ol’ girl up and she ran fine for a couple of days and the old problems reappeared. I got her running but in early February another problem arose. The unit would turn on but only for a second and turn itself off. I could hear the fan and the lights would flash for just a moment and the unit would shut off. I tried getting it started several time but to no avail. I was so frustrated, I just let the unit sit for a couple of weeks and use my 7 year old Toshiba. Finally, I contacted Tech Support and was told to hold the power button for about 15 seconds. It worked!

I was finally up and running…I thought. That is, until I realized I could not connect to the internet and the unit did not recognize the keyboard. I tried rebooting thinking once I reboot, it would connect to the internet and recognize the keyboard. Guess what. Now the unit will not come on. I turned it on and held the power button but it still shuts itself off. That’s enough.

This unit is great if used for a paperweight or door stop. But it is not worth the money and time I have spent on it, working with it and talking to Tech Support. I feel I should not have to go through all this and still use my 7 year old computer. I do not want to contact Tech Support anymore. What I do want is simple. A computer that works as was advertised on your website.
