After purchasing a Magic Jack unit through the internet, from www.magicjack.com, I installed the unit on my computer. Up untill today, I am using the unit as a secondary phone line for business calls and to send faxes. I am definitely NOT satisfied with the unit. Upon first startup of my computer, it would take about 20
Minutes to start. Additionaly, I cannot run any other applications on my computer while Magic Jack is starting. I would have to go away and come back in about 20-25 minutes (very frustrating) before I can get control of my computer. No one at Magic Jack has any answer as to why this is happening.
Another major problem is an understanding of the product by the average computer user. Because the average computer user doesn't realize that it takes much longer than normal to start, the user would keep trying to reboot their computer in an effort to get out of the deadly embrace of Magic Jack.
Another major hangup is having to use an online chat (which in of itself is frustrating) to get customer support. God help you if the Magic Jack software has control of your computer and that is the only way to get customer support. Hopefully, the user will have another computer in their home/office to use for Magic Jack customer support at that time.
Finally, the misleading advertisement on TV that Magic Jack is only $19.95 a year. I was under that assumption, based on the TV ad, that Magic is only for $19.95. I misunderstand the commercial and ordered Magic Jack only to discover that it ACTUALLY $46.90 including taxes. VERY misleading!
