Nokia
Nokia is a trademark owned by Nokia Corporation of Espoo, Finland. Nokia-brand phones have been made and supported by licensee HMD Global Oy, per HMD's own site; Nokia's FY2025 Form 20-F says that licence was to expire by March 2026 and was extended only for feature phones in limited countries, until March 2029. This page explains which company handles phone warranty and repair, how BBB and Trustpilot display the names as of October 14, 2026, and what 40 archive posts from 2002 to 2013 describe. Many other archive posts about 'Nokia' are prize-message reports, not product complaints.

Nokia phone complaints, warranty and repair, and prize messages: what to do (checked October 14, 2026)
This page covers Nokia as a consumer name. The trademark belongs to Nokia Corporation; per the footer of HMD's own site, 'HMD Global Oy is a licensee of the Nokia brand for phones. Nokia is a registered trademark of Nokia Corporation.' Nokia.com's support page sends phone owners to HMD ('Phones support: Get help for your Nokia phone') and sends owners of Nokia TVs, laptops and other licensed devices to a separate 'Nokia licensed products' page. The profile therefore treats Nokia Corporation as brand owner and HMD Global Oy as the company that has made and supported Nokia-brand phones; the two are different companies.
Licence timeline. Nokia's FY2025 Form 20-F (filed 2026-03-05) says that in August 2023 Nokia and HMD amended the licensing agreement 'so that HMD's exclusive license to create Nokia branded devices would expire by March 2026', and that 'In October 2025, Nokia and HMD agreed to extend the license period for the Nokia-branded feature phones until March 2029 for limited countries.' This page does not say which models HMD currently sells in the United States; HMD's US support page remains the support route for Nokia phones already sold.
Phone warranty, repair or software problems. HMD's support page calls itself 'the authorized customer support channel for all HMD and Nokia branded devices (phones and tablets) manufactured by HMD'. It offers chat, an email form and a care-center locator. HMD's US warranty FAQ says: 'Nokia smartphones come with a Manufacturer's Limited Warranty of 12 (twelve) months', that the warranty 'covers the hardware components of the product as originally supplied' and 'does not cover, or partially covers, software, consumable items, or accessories'. Its US-specific page says phone support is for US customers: 'please leave a voicemail message on +1 (833) 766-5420 and our support team will callback during business hours, (Mon to Fri).' Keep proof of purchase and the model and IMEI. For out-of-warranty devices, HMD's self-repair page says 'You can buy spare parts and tools for both smart devices and feature phones from GSMnet.'
Nokia TVs, laptops and streaming devices. Use the 'Nokia licensed products' page on nokia.com, which lists separate support routes per product type.
Messages saying you won a 'Nokia' prize. Over 100 of the roughly 200 archive posts mentioning Nokia on this site (a keyword match) describe unsolicited text and email messages about lottery or cash-prize wins that use the Nokia name and ask for personal details or fees. These are not complaints about Nokia's products. A post dated 2012-03-08 on blogs.windows.com, titled 'The Nokia Lottery isn't real, don't fall for it', states 'There is no Nokia Lottery' and lists 'Nokia Live Promo, Nokia year promotion, Nokia New year bonanza, or Nokia Anniversary' as other names used for the same messages (the text I opened does not name an author). Do not send money or identity documents to claim a prize. In the US, fraud reports can be filed at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
Who is behind the Nokia name
Nokia Corporation is the registered trademark owner (Nokia.com Terms of use: 'Nokia is a registered trademark of Nokia Corporation'). Its Form 20-F for FY2025 gives its principal executive offices as Karakaari 7, FI-02610 Espoo, Finland. Nokia.com's current homepage and support pages are organized around network solutions for AI and cloud providers, enterprises and telecommunication providers, patent licensing, and a consumer-support hub for licensed products.
HMD Global Oy lists Bertel Jungin aukio 9, 02600 Espoo, Finland (Business ID 2724044-2) in its footer and describes itself as a licensee of the Nokia brand for phones. HMD also sells phones under its own HMD name; its support page covers both HMD- and Nokia-branded devices. Nokia's Form 20-F states that Nokia 'receives royalty payments from HMD for sales of Nokia branded mobile phones and tablets' and that 'Nokia has held an ownership interest in HMD since 2020 which it has accounted for as an investment in associate'. The two companies remain separate legal entities.
BBB lists a separate profile named Nokia of America Corporation (Alpharetta, Georgia). The same Form 20-F describes it as 'Nokia's wholly-owned subsidiary, formerly known as Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc.' BBB's file does not describe consumer phones, and this page does not describe it as the maker of consumer phones.
Complaints and reviews about Nokia (as displayed on 2026-10-14)
Our archive. 40 approved archive posts naming Nokia as the subject are linked to this page; they were posted between 2002 and 2013 and concern Nokia-brand handsets, accessories, service centers and a mail-in rebate. They are individual allegations, not findings. A keyword count of those posts: 22 mention warranty or repair, 22 a defective phone or accessory, 15 customer service, and 3 a rebate or promotion (posts can be counted in several groups). A further group of archive posts mentioning Nokia (113 matched prize or advance-fee keywords) describe prize messages, not product complaints, and are not linked as complaints about the company.
BBB. As displayed on 2026-10-14, BBB's profile for Nokia of America Corporation (primary address 12850 Highway 9 N, Alpharetta, GA) shows an A- rating, is not BBB Accredited, and shows 2 total complaints in the last 3 years. It is one BBB file and says nothing on its face about Nokia-brand phones. BBB's raw page data gives the file-opened date as 1996-11-01.
Trustpilot. As displayed on 2026-10-14, the page for nokia.com has the title 'Nokia is rated "Bad" with 1.6 / 5', shows 530 reviews and is a claimed profile; the page for www.hmd.com has the title 'HMD is rated "Poor" with 1.8 / 5', shows 24 reviews (a small sample) and 'Claim your profile' (unclaimed). Individual reviews on both pages concern Nokia-brand handsets. The two pages are different listings and are not added together. Trustpilot reviews are not verified by this site.
Is Nokia Legitimate?
Nokia Corporation is an identifiable company that owns the Nokia trademark and files annual reports with the SEC (Form 20-F, FY2025), and HMD Global Oy publicly identifies itself as the licensee for Nokia-brand phones, with a registered Finnish business ID and a published US support line. Which entity answers a Nokia-brand phone complaint depends on the product: phones go to HMD, other licensed devices go to the Nokia licensed-products page.
Recalls and enforcement, as checked on 2026-10-14. The CPSC manufacturer listing for 'Nokia' (cpsc.gov/manufacturer/nokia) shows two recalls: a recall announced by Mascot Electronic AS of 65,800 ACH-4U cellular phone chargers used with Nokia phones (recall date December 18, 1995), and a June 18, 2014 recall of about 500 travel charger kits sold separately for the Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet (CPSC lists Nokia Inc. as importer and manufacturer; recall number 14-209). Neither listing concerns an HMD-era phone. No regulator enforcement action or court case about Nokia-brand consumer phones was identified in the sources checked (Nokia's Form 20-F, CPSC, BBB, Trustpilot and the company pages named above); FTC and FCC action pages and court dockets were not searched, so the absence of such items here is not a statement that none exist.
Messages claiming a 'Nokia' prize are a separate matter: the archive posts about them describe unsolicited approaches using the name, not Nokia's own conduct.
