GameStop complaints: returns, trade-ins, Pro membership and pre-orders (checked October 14, 2026)
This page is about GameStop Corp., the Texas-based retailer that runs GameStop stores, gamestop.com and the GameStop Pro membership, and that holds the EB Games and Electronics Boutique names. Reviews and complaints about a particular store are about the company's local operation; the company's own policies below apply company-wide.
Where to start. GameStop's Help Center (contact email [email protected]) lists Order Help, GameStop PRO, Returns & Exchanges, Trades, Payments & Gift Cards, Digital Content and Pre-orders. Its Pro Terms give Guest Care contact details: toll-free 800-883-8895, or mail to GameStop, Attn: Guest Care, 625 Westport Parkway, Grapevine, TX 76051.
Return policy as published on gamestop.com (opened October 14, 2026).
- An in-store receipt or gamestop.com order number is required; the page says returns may require a valid government ID, and that GameStop 'reserve[s] the right to limit returns or exchanges' even with a valid receipt.
- New, unopened products: return within 15 days; 'Special' or 'Collector' editions of video game software and hardware within 7 days. Pre-owned products: full refund within 7 days. PCs, PC components and accessories, laptops, TVs and monitors: 7 days.
- Listed as final sale: trading cards, blind items, clearance, seasonal items, consumables, digital products, graded PSA cards, books, magazines and guides, and opened new hardware, software, accessories, collectibles and PCs. Defective exchanges are permitted within the return window.
- Online purchases: return in store for free or ship back (the page states an $8.99 fee; video game console returns carry a $14.99 shipping fee). Items over $500 bought online cannot be returned in store.
- Pro members: unopened new software and hardware returnable within 30 days; defective pre-owned exchange within 30 days (15 days for non-Pro).
- Items purchased in-store must be returned in-store; orders shipped to PR, HI or AK are eligible for in-store return only; returns with a gift receipt are offered a GameStop gift card or an even exchange; claims for lost in transit or delivered-but-not-received orders must be submitted within 60 days of shipment.
Pro membership. The Pro Terms (effective date shown: October 1, 2026) state the price as $29.99 per year, a full refund if cancelled within two days of purchase with no benefits used, and cancellation at any time without refund by notifying Guest Care by mail, email or phone. The terms say a member who does not pay to renew after the one-year period is downgraded to the free account and loses access to associated benefits and points, and that cancellation results in loss of all accumulated points. A separate auto-renew program is described as something members 'may opt to participate in'; for participants the terms say the membership 'WILL AUTOMATICALLY RENEW EACH YEAR' and the card on file is charged the then-applicable fee unless they cancel; cancelling stops further charges, 'no prorated amounts shall be refunded', and the membership 'will be valid and continue through the end of the then-current billing cycle'.
Points change. The Pro Terms state that, effective July 15, 2026, the points-earning benefit is being phased out: members whose purchase or renewal date is on or after July 15, 2026 do not accumulate points, and members whose current term began earlier accumulate points only until their next renewal date. The 10-Q for the quarter ended August 1, 2026 describes the same change.
Arbitration. The Pro and Account Terms contain a mandatory arbitration and class action waiver provision. Before any formal arbitration or lawsuit, the terms require an informal dispute period of at least 60 days after written notice of a claim; arbitration is governed by JAMS rules as the terms refer to them. The opt-out must be a written notice, signed by the member, sent to the Contact Us address 'within 30 days of January 28, 2025, or the date you first participate in the Program, whichever is later'; for members who joined earlier, that window as written has passed.
Pre-orders. The Pro Terms say in-store reservations are cancellable before or up to 30 days after the release date for a refund to the original form of tender, application to a new reservation or a digital gift card; reservations not redeemed or cancelled within 30 days after release are 'automatically converted into non-expiring digital gift card redeemable only for merchandise from GameStop', and in-store reservations are 'issued by and represent solely an obligation of Marketing Control Services, Inc.' For online pick-up pre-orders the terms say the payment method is charged in full when the order is placed, and that if a product will not be available by the release date GameStop will notify the customer, who 'may cancel your order at no cost for a full refund'. GameStop's pre-order help article says signed-in orders are cancelled in the account, guest orders by email to [email protected], and that close to release the order 'can't be cancelled, even by Customer Service'.
Trade-ins. The Pro Terms list '5% extra trade-in credit on graded collectibles and 10% extra trade-in credit on games, accessories, and more', in the form of cash or GameStop store credit only. The Return Policy says items without valid proof of purchase 'may be traded in at current trade value pricing'.
If a dispute is not resolved. Dispute your card charge with your card issuer within its deadline, file a complaint with the Texas Attorney General or your state attorney general, report to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov, and consider a BBB complaint. GameStop is not a financial company, so the CFPB complaint database is for credit products, such as a GameStop-branded credit card issued by a bank.
Who operates GameStop
GameStop Corp. is a Delaware corporation with principal executive offices at 625 Westport Parkway, Grapevine, Texas. Its Class A common stock trades on the NYSE under GME. The company describes itself as offering 'games, collectibles, and entertainment products through its stores and ecommerce platforms'. Its Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended January 31, 2026 lists collectibles (including card authentication and grading services) and software, hardware and accessories among its products, and describes trade-in of pre-owned products for cash or credit and loyalty programs with free and paid membership.
Store footprint. The 10-K store table shows 1,598 U.S. stores at January 31, 2026, down from 2,325 a year earlier (727 disposals), with Canada exited during fiscal 2025. The 10-Q for the quarter ended August 1, 2026 states that, effective July 8, 2026, the company operates in two geographic segments, United States and Australia, and that during its second fiscal quarter 2026 it 'completed the sale of its French subsidiary, Micromania GameStop SAS'. The 10-Q also says 'we do not anticipate closing a significant number of stores in fiscal 2026'.
eBay proposal. The 10-Q states that on May 3, 2026 the company submitted a non-binding proposal to acquire 100 percent of the outstanding shares of eBay for $125.00 per share in cash and company stock, that during the second quarter it exercised put/call pairs and acquired direct beneficial ownership of the underlying eBay shares, and that it has no binding agreements for a specific transaction at this time.
Names. The 10-K lists the registered marks GameStop, EB Games, EB Electronics Boutique and GameStop Pro. BBB lists Funcoland, Game Stop, Electronics Boutique, EB Games, Micromania and Zing Pop Culture as alternate names (Micromania GameStop SAS, the French subsidiary, was sold in the second quarter of fiscal 2026 per the 10-Q) and Simply Mac, Inc. as a related business. The 10-K also refers to a past acquisition of ThinkGeek (ownership change July 17, 2015) in its tax note; ThinkGeek archive posts are not counted on this page because they predate that acquisition.
Newer initiatives. The 10-K says the company launched Power Packs in 2025, a digital trading platform in partnership with Collectors Holdings, Inc. through its Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) division, through which collectors buy graded PSA trading cards stored in the PSA vault.
Complaint record: BBB, Trustpilot and this site's archive
BBB, as displayed on October 14, 2026. The BBB profile for GameStop, Inc., Grapevine, Texas shows 'NOT BBB Accredited', a rating of D-, and the stated reasons '38 complaint(s) filed against business that were not resolved' and 'Failure to respond to 4 complaint(s)'. The complaints tab shows 2,146 total complaints in the last 3 years and 656 filed in the last 12 months. BBB cautions readers to consider a company's size and transaction volume; GameStop operates well over a thousand U.S. stores plus gamestop.com.
Trustpilot, as displayed on October 14, 2026. The gamestop.com page shows a claimed profile (November 2020), 2,767 reviews and a TrustScore of 1.2 out of 5. Trustpilot states that it does not fact-check reviews, and the two platforms' figures are not combined here.
Archive posts on this site. 79 approved posts dated 2004 to 2013 are linked to GameStop (including EB Games and Electronics Boutique) as the subject, and 13 more are linked as non-primary mentions where a third-party offer such as Reservation Rewards or a Trymedia download purchase was made through a GameStop site. These are individual consumer accounts and are unverified allegations. No post dated after 2013 is linked, so the archive says nothing about current store practice.
Keyword counts across the 79 primary posts (a post can appear in more than one group): return, refund or exchange wording 30; charge or gift-card wording 17; broken, defective or warranty wording 20; advertising or promotion wording 16; trade-in wording 14; pre-order or reservation wording 10.
Is GameStop Legitimate?
GameStop Corp. files annual and quarterly reports with the SEC, lists its headquarters at 625 Westport Parkway, Grapevine, Texas, and is traded on the NYSE under GME. Its most recent 10-K covers the fiscal year ended January 31, 2026 and its latest 10-Q the quarter ended August 1, 2026.
What the filings say about litigation. The 10-K describes ordinary-course proceedings 'including matters involving wage and hour employee class actions, stockholder actions, consumer class actions, violent acts, and other conflicts' and says management does not believe they will have a material effect; the 10-Q for the quarter ended August 1, 2026 uses substantially the same wording. No named consumer case is listed in either. This page does not identify a federal or state consumer-protection enforcement action against GameStop; the checks made on October 14, 2026 were limited to the SEC filings, text renderings of the FTC cases and CPSC recalls search pages and Texas Attorney General news search (no GameStop entries), and the BBB National Programs/NAD site was not checked.
Court dockets opened. Two 2026 federal dockets naming GameStop were opened on CourtListener on October 14, 2026 and are listed in the court cases below, with their docket entries only. CourtListener's own search page returned a human-verification check that day, so this page does not state how many other federal dockets name GameStop.
Unfavorable BBB and Trustpilot figures above reflect what those platforms display; they are not findings of a regulator or court.

Pro members get 30 days on unopened new software and hardware. The policy lists several final-sale categories, including opened new hardware and software, trading cards and digital products.
Do I need a receipt or ID to return something to GameStop?
The Return Policy states that an in-store receipt or gamestop.com order number is required and that returns 'may require a valid Government ID, except where prohibited by law'. Accepted proof includes the order number, confirmation email, original receipt, packing slip or return barcode. Items without valid proof are not eligible for return, but may be traded in at current trade value if eligible.
How do I cancel GameStop Pro and can I get a refund?
The Pro Terms state that a member may cancel and receive a full refund within two days of purchase if no Pro benefits, including discounts, have been used, subject to certain conditions. A member may cancel at any time without refund by notifying Guest Care by mail, email or telephone (800-883-8895). The terms say a member who does not pay to renew after one year is downgraded to a free account and loses access to benefits and points, that cancelling results in loss of accumulated points, and that no prorated amounts are refunded for participants in the auto-renew program who cancel (membership continues through the end of the billing cycle). Effective July 15, 2026, points earning is being phased out for memberships purchased or renewed on or after that date.
How much does GameStop Pro cost?
The Pro Terms, showing an effective date of October 1, 2026, state that the current price for a Pro Membership is $29.99 per year, and that membership fees and benefits may change at any time at GameStop's discretion.

The Pro and Account Terms contain a mandatory arbitration and class action waiver provision. They require an informal dispute period of at least 60 days after written notice of a claim before any formal arbitration or lawsuit, and refer to JAMS rules. The opt-out right requires written notice, signed by the member, sent to the Contact Us address within 30 days of January 28, 2025 or of the date the member first participates in the Program, whichever is later; the window for earlier members, as written, has passed. Is EB Games the same company as GameStop?
The GameStop 10-K lists EB Games and EB Electronics Boutique among the company's registered trademarks, and the BBB file lists EB Games and Electronics Boutique as alternate names. Archive complaints on this site about EB Games from 2004 to 2008 are linked to this page on that basis.
Does this page cover ThinkGeek complaints?
ThinkGeek posts are not counted here. The 10-K's tax note refers to a ThinkGeek acquisition with an ownership change on July 17, 2015, and the archive ThinkGeek posts are dated 2006 to 2013, before that date.
