Just buried my Father last week. He lost a long battle with cancer and now my Mother is on her own. We had to borrow money for the funeral and I was selling his car to help my Mom pay the funeral expenses. So, I asked a local store owner if I could sit the car at the end of his parking lot with a for sale sign in the window. He said sure, go right ahead and was perfectly fine with it. At this time there WAS NOT one sign on the property that said this was not allowed. I know because I surveyed the whole property prior to parking my Dad's car there.
Two days later I went to meet a person who was interested in buying the car and presto... The car was gone. Upon calling the police department to report it stolen they informed me that Caroline's Towing called them to inform them they had a 'repossession order' to pick up the car. Repossession?"Yes", the police said, that's what Caroline's Towing told them. Now, this would be a good time to tell you that my Dad paid cash for his car back in 1997!!! (and yes, they towed this, my Dad's 15 year old car with 190k miles on it). Talk about heartless.
Here's the interesting part; when I learned the car was missing I also saw BRAND NEW signs posted on a few of the light poles in the parking lot. Note - these WERE NOT, I repeat WERE NOT posted two days earlier. When I asked the manager of the store that told me it was okay to park the car there he said he didn't know anything about Caroline's Towing and did not ask for those signs to be posted.
So I called Caroline's towing and spoke with some of the most low life people I have ever talked too. The obvious question was "why did you not call me to come get the car? I'm only two miles from there!" Their answer..."that's not our job. Our job is to pick up cars all over the Atlanta area" Thinking there was someone there that may have half a heart I let them know that I was trying to sell this car to help pay for my Dad's burial expenses. Their response..."that's not our problem; you owe us $125 plus $15 per day storage fee if you want your car back".
I guess along life's path you meet many kinds of people. Caroline's towing wins the award for having the most heartless, callous, mean spirited, selfish, cold hearted and most of all dishonest people I have ever met. Honestly, I don't know how they sleep at night. One things for sure; karma is a fact of life. What goes around, comes around and I suspect if it hasn't already happened there's probably been and/or will continue to be bad things happen to these people and there families. I would hate to go through life like this but I guess if you don't have a moral compass you probably don't know any better.
