This company takes advantage due to being contracted to tow away cars from our Association only for abandoned cars, motorhomes, boats and no parking permit. They now come at night like prawlers looking for cars to tow away to make money. Yes sometimes they might be able to tow away for legitimate reasons like no parking permit, but in my and several other cases in my community, they have been illegally towing cars away. Most people pay $108.00 towing fee and forget get it ever happened... Well not me. My car was towed illegally.
Towed away for an expired license tag expiring in Dec and today is Jan 4.By law they are not allowed to tow away for expired tag unless abandoned... Well hard to believe a 1998 Toyota Sienna well taking cared would look abandoned and to say the least only 4 days on an expired tag.
I called the police department and no record of them authorizing it to be removed from property. I then called Galactic Towing and asked if they had my car.
They put me on hold for long while, then he returned to the phone and confirmed they had it. I asked why would they tow my car if it had a parking permit. He did not know and put me on hold for 5 minutes to check and see why they towed my car. He came back on the phone and said that my tag was expired.
I told him it was illegal to tow cars for that reason and he said I am sorry I am the dspatcher and the only way to get the car is by paying and the owner will be in on monday.
Towing fees continue accruing each day and say the least I had plans for a saturday with my kids.
I could not believe that they could just pick up a car without the police knowing about it for expired tag... Well there is a law that no one can tow a car without the police checking the status of the car vin# for stolen purposes.
I will be taking them to small claims court and also bringing my law book with me. I refuse to pay 108 dollars to a rip off company who take advantage of poor people who end up paying their life savings to take their car out of the wrecker and of course most citizenso do not know the law and how to come about getting back at RIP OFF COMPANYS.
