Purchased, for a customer, an ATK engine through a dealer and received the engine within about 4 days from Texas. Good service to a rural area. Then the fun began.
Prepped the engine for installation, including all tin work, painting, break-in oil. Put the spark plugs in to one head, no problem. Got to the other head, and it was a completely different head that needed different plugs! This would not work, how could we instruct our customer that they would need to buy two different sizes of spark plugs when the time came to do a tune-up?
Called the dealer, he called ATK. Waited 4 hours and had not heard a thing. Called dealer again, he called ATK again, then they called to ask about the problem and start a claim. All good so far. A replacement engine was on the way.
Four days later, the replacement engine got here. This time, checked the heads first thing, and AGAIN they were mismatched! So now the shop stall has been tied up for 2 weeks, and we have no engine. Called ATK directly this time, before letting the delivery driver unload, and was told that we most certainly COULD reject the delivery, but that they absolutely WOULD NOT send us another engine! WHAT? You have X amount of our $ and you are NOT going to send us another engine? Then know right now that this delivery is rejected and we will never deal with you again!
Got a hold of the dealer after the fact, and have to really praise them, because they refunded our original purchase price that day, but we are still waiting on payment of a labor claim for the original prep time, and was just told this A.M. That they have not been able to do the engine inspection yet, so cannot determine if we will bet the refund. How long does it take to screw a spark plug in and see what the problem is? I think we will probably just have to kiss that money good-bye.
DO NOT DEAL with ATK. Always ask your dealer who his supplier is before placing the order. Lesson learned!
