Beware of Motor Maxx! They Will Rip You Off!

In October of my car was in need of a repair. It was leaking coolant from somewhere, but I was not able to locate the leak. I took it to one shop and they told me it was my head gasket. (my car was a 2000 and in great shape for its age, despite the normal wear/tear). While driving down Atlantic in search of a second opinion for the repair needed for my car, I saw the billboard for Motor Maxx and decided to stop in. Since I had limited $, the idea of financing my repairs was ideal for my situation. The mechanic took my car in the back and made me wait for hours before he said I had some hoses in the back of the manifold that had ruptured. They discovered this only by removing the manifold, which i did not agree to. Since I was already at their mercy, I let them keep my car overnight so they could repair it the next day. (I brought my car in on a Tuesday afternoon). They called me Wednesday at my job to say that in the process of fixing my car, they said the heater hose was damaged and needed to be replaced. My bill was already at around $700, this new repair was an additional $400. Since I had no way of getting over to the shop to see this new damage, I agreed to the additional repair. They told me my car would be done Thursday morning. Thursday morning came, and I called. To my un-surprise they said it would be Thursday afternoon, then they told me Friday morning. Furthermore, they told me they ran one of my tires over a nail and popped my tire. They replaced it and felt they were doing a favor for me. Friday morning came and they said it would be Friday afternoon. They called me at my job and said I could pick my car up Friday after 6pm. I went to the shop after work and they had me sign all the papers. I was surprised that they asked for $ down since their ads online say "No $ down". They took my title as collateral and we broke down the payments. It wasn't until I paid them off that they told me they placed a tracker in my car. Then when I went to start my car, I knew right away that it was a botched job. My engine sounded wrong, my wipers didn't work, radio, cruise control, A/C, the Check Engine light was on... Everything that wasn't wrong to begin with was now not working. I called them up Saturday morning and told them there was a laundry list of problems. They told me to bring my car back and let them work on it Saturday. They called me that evening to say they had everything fixed. I picked my car up on Sunday. Nothing was fixed. Everything was still inoperative. I called them back and demanded they fix my car right. They had me bring it in on Wednesday and they worked on it all day. They brought my car to my place of work, and to my surprise, my directionals weren't working as well as the laundry list of problems still had not been fixed. They told me they had to order a part for the directionals, and gave no reasons for the other issues not being solved. I brought my car back to them the following Tuesday and when they returned my car to my job again that evening, the Transmission Control Module had been fried. Thus my car was now in "Limp Mode." Having been raked over the coals enough by this company, I took my now completely damaged car to a friend of mine who has an auto shop on Phillips and he repaired the TCM. I called Motor Maxx and demanded they refund my money for poor workmanship but they refused. I bit the bullet, made my payments but I refused to go without a fight. I called the local TV news consumer advocate, but it got me nowhere. I called the Better Business Bureau, but that went nowhere as well. My last option was to call the Consumer Advocacy department in Tallahassee. I filed a formal complaint against Motor Maxx. It took them over 4 months to respond to the complaint issued by the state of Florida. They actually had the nerve to say that all the problems that occurred with my car was not the result of their repairs. They said that all the things that didn't work on my car came in like that initially, despite the fact I had over a dozen witnesses who rode in the car prior to me bringing my car to Motor Maxx swear on paper that my car was in top shape for its age. Nonetheless, the lady in Tallahassee working on my case was unhappy with Motor Maxx and their response, but not much could be done to solve any of the problems. I would advise any and all to avoid Motor Maxx on Atlantic Blvd at all cost.
