Washington Auto Repai
Ripped off

On Monday, November 19th I took my car into the Washington Auto Repair Shop located at 604 Rhode Island Avenue N.E. Washington D.C. 20002. When I went there it was to get an oil pan gasket, they checked my car and found that the pressure hoses on my power steering pump was bad so I agreed for them to fix that. The car was supposed to be done by that evening it was not. Then they said on Tuesday from Tuesday they said Wednesday morning, I went to get the car on Wednesday morning still not done. So they called me on Wednesday evening I came to get the car, I paid $723.00 on the way home, something broke (later I found out it was the rack n pen ion). I could not turn the stirring wheel. Thursday was Thanksgiving. So on Friday morning they called me and said the rack n pen ion was broken and that I needed a new one; I explained I had just gotten one earlier and the manager told me it was an old one that had been put on, and that was not true because I went to Auto Zone and brought a brand new one myself on May 24 on that same day I replaced the pressure hoses on the power stirring pump. I gave them permission to put the new one on for $90.00. I took the car home and it was running hard like a race car and Lincolns don’t run hard it’s a luxury car. On Monday, November 26th I took my car back to Washington Auto they put the car up on the rack, immediately the manager returned and said that the engine was hanging down on a bar under the car because the motor mounts were broken. I don’t know if they purposely broke them so they could get more work for themselves or what. However I do know it was their fault because they had to lift the motor in order to fix the oil pan gasket and somehow they broke the motor mounts and they didn’t even tell me. They knew that the motor mounts were broken when they sent me out of that place. They gave me an estimate of $402.00 for them to fix the motor mounts. I refuse to give them money for damage they caused it simply isn’t fair! I went to another mechanic and he did the work for$100.00 less than what Washington Auto Repair estimated. When I first went to Washington Auto Repair they estimated the cost to be $660.00 and when I got my car the cost jumped to $723.00. So even though they gave me an estimate for $402.00 it is more than likely to have been more once they did the work. I have heard of mechanics doing things like this; but in Washington DC the nation’s capitol. Or maybe because I’m a woman and they think they can get rich off of us because we don’t know much about cars.

Sincerely yours, Frances R. Young
