Please DO NOT purchase any vehicles at Maroon Kia in Wayne, NJ. They are all liars and thieves.
I purchased an 03 Kia Sedona with 59K miles in 02 for 9k (after warrantey and taxes). We just needed a spare car for transporting my 3 kids. Only needed to use it for 5 years, so we decided to buy a used van.
On May 4 (after putting only 2k miles) as I was exiting a ramp off a major highway, I stepped on the brakes to slow down and stop and it went right to the floor. I swerved onto oncoming traffic and luckily didn't hit anyone or get hit by anyone. For a brief moment, I thought I was going to die! It was a very devasting event that I still feel traumatized by. Thank God my husband or 3 yound children were not present with me at the time.
The mechanic that fixed the brakes told me that all the brake lines were rusted out and this could happen again. He asked me if the vehicle had been sitting on grass or gravel for long periods of time without being used and I said no. I have a concrete driveway that I park it in. I was extremely upset but decided that I was only going to use the vehicle for emergencies and for local trips.
In July of my husband was using the van to haul out some junk that was in our basement. After using the vehicle, he noticed a loud noise. We took it to the mechanic and found that the power steering line was leaking. Again, due to rust and that "it could happen again, " he too asked me if the vehicle had been sitting for long periods of time on grass or gravel. Again, I said no.
I was very annoyed at this point that I spent 9k for a pile of rusty brake lines and power steering lines.
I called the dealership to let them know what was happening and to rectify this. They told me to bring the vehicle in and they would appraise it and buy it back from me. The very next day I brought it in and they offered to buy it back for a whopping 2k!!! Are you kidding me??? I spent 9k just 17 months ago and only drove it for 2k miles.
I wanted to speak to the owner, whom was avoiding me like the plague. I kept getting the GM, Ken Johnson. He kept yelling at me that the car was 10 years old and "what do you expect" I expected a little more after spending 9k!!! The vehicle is dangerous to drive.
They HAD to have known about the rusty brake lines and power steering lines. This didn't just happen during the last 17mos and putting 2k miles on it. They failed to disclose a mechnical issue that could have costed me my life.
All I wanted to do was to speak to the owner, Ray Maroon. Everytime I called and asked for him, they hung up on me. Every staff member there knew who I was and knew to hang up on me. I don't know why Mr. Maroon did not have the decency to speak to me himself.
I'm pursuing this matter and have already contacted the bbb.
