I went to the Rainier Chevron Station to fill up three gas stations this morning. These are cans that I have had for a long time and have filled them up many times. The attendant started with one of the 5 gallon cans. The gas was filled up to just below the fill line with premium gas from pump #6. However, the pump registered 6.674 gallons. I pointed out the descrepancy to the attendant.
After he checked everything out and agreed that there was a problem, I asked for the manager. He said that the manager was out, but that I could speak to the woman at the cash register. I went into the food mart and explained to the woman at the cash register what had happenned and that I wanted her to call the manager. She kept saying that there was nothing that she or the manager could do.
All that she allowed me to do was to leave a note for the manager. I went back out and told the attendant what had happened. He went in and talked to her. He came back out and said that she refused to call the manager for him either. He said that this was "bullsh*" and that he would write a note also. He said "What happens the next time some guy notices and I get popped?"
I left and took my remaining two gas cans to the Shell on Rockcrest St. They filled up the 5 gallon and the one gallon cans. At this point they came up with 6 gallons and a cost less then the Chevron station though they were charging the same per gallon.
Gas prices are high enough without pumps that are either unreliable or purposely altered. I do not know who needs to investigate this station, but someone should protect the public interest. I have receipts and have not used any gas out of the 5 gallon can that they filled. I have also filed a complaint with the Oregon State Attorney General and Chevron.
