Like hundreds of others, I was victimized by Just Brakes!
The complaint I filed with Just Brakes at their website is copied below:
"I feel like I have been taken advantage of! I brought my 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser with 58,000 miles in for a "friction reline." I was experiencing NO problems with my brakes, just saw that the pads were getting low, and wanted to have them replaced before they got too low and did start causing problems. Upon the service rep, Billy's inspection, he went to what appeared to be the manager and had him come out to tell me what work would need to be done.
I was told that on all 4 wheels, the pads were not wearing evenly. He showed me the difference between the outer and inner pads, stating that they should be the same thickness if everything was working properly. The outer pads were a bit more worn than the inner pads.
He told me that the reason for this was that the phenolic pistons were slightly damaged from the extreme heat generated by "today's non-asbestos brake systems." He told me that all 4 calipers and pistons had to be replaced. I was told that this was a normal part of brake system service, and that in 30,000 miles I would need all of this performed again. He, of course, told me I should bring it back there to have the work done again in the future, because with the waranty, the same work would only cost me half as much.
I was not educated about brake systems, which was the reason I went to Just Brakes to begin with. I thought it was a company I could trust! After having the service performed, I started to research the claims of the service tech and manager. Upon hours and hours of research, speaking with the dealer and other mechanics, I am certain that the work that I was told had to be done was not at all necessary!
The fact of the matter is, if there were genuine problems with the pistons and calipers, I would have experienced some sort of abnormality when braking. There was no pulsing, no pulling, not even so much as a squeak or grind. There was no excessive brake dust. The rotors were actually smoother before the service was performed.
I needed a brake job for "$99.88, " but what I got was taken advantage of for over $620.00! Is this normal practice for Just Brakes? Taking advantage of the customers that don't know any better and trust a name they hear on the radio every day?!
I hope that this can be somehow resolved to re-instill my faith in your company. Customer referrals go a very long way in any service business, but so do customer complaints and negative comments. I look forward to discussing this matter with you further, and greatly anticipate a prompt response.
