I went to my local tires plus for a scheduled appointment to get a front end alignment on my 99 Durango. They were offering what I thought was a reasonable price at $79.00. About 5 minutes after my truck was on the rack the guy comes back in with a list of things that need to be repaired before they can do the alignment. Mainly he stated that the lower ball joints needed to be replaced and it would cost an additional $667.00. I just about lost my mind, I am a mechanic and I just replaced the lower ball joints, wheel hubs, upper ball joints and half axles about 2 months ago. The only thing I didn't do was align it, mainly because I don't have the proper tools for the job. This guy absolutely refused to do the work unless I spent the extra $667.00. Well I'm guessing that the nice price on the alignment is just a way to get people in there shop and then tell them they need to spend a ton more cash before the problem could be fixed. I was curious about the ball joints so when I got home how I lifted the truck up to inspect the ball joints, you could still see fresh grease on the for god sakes, brand new. Whatever, Tires plus is just a corporate ripoff, I'm gonna stick to my local garages from now on even if I do have to pay a little more money! What a joke.
