I parked far away from the two signs warning about towing in front of the business so as not to interfere with their customers There are quite a few unused spaces, plenty more. I walked across the street to the business I needed. When I returned to my vehicle a 1/2 hour later it was gone.
Another victim came up to me and asked if my car was missing and I told her yes. She said it may have been towed as was hers and the other 3 people waiting in the lot. Seems the towing company had a spotter in the lot and 3 tow trucks standing by. She had been washing clothes in the laundemat and had left her clothes in the wash while going across the street.
I consider myself luckier than her because I had someone to come get me but she did not. She was being charged an extra $70 on top of the $189 to have her car returned to the parking lot. How can they charge such a enormous amount of money to get your car back? Their driver claimed he didn't even have change. Maybe he was thinking he could fanagle a tip out of the situation?
Who gives them the right? Why aren't there some controls/limits on there charges and practices? Are there protections for these unscrupulous businesses from government agencies that would allow them to operate in this manner? What about the protection for the public?
