While I was watching the news one evening it was no surprize to me that just brakes is under investigation for ripping off thier customers. This is my story... I am a female my knowledge of cars isn't great. I do have a close family friend who has been maintaining my car for 6 years. Wouldn't you know it, he was on vacation at the time my idiot light came on in my car.
As just brakes is in my town i thought it convienent to take it there. I didn't even no they did brakes for $99.00. They take my car in, come back and tell me they have bad news for me my master cylinder had blown... Ok by this time my brake system had been stripped down to nothing. As i sit in the waiting area they come back and tell me they have more bad news for me my rotors were bad calipers, all this other stuff. I asked for a price to have it repaired $1087.00!!!
Now i am not a brain surgeon but thinking this outrageous i called my mechanic and i quote, "There is no way your brakes are in this kind of shape." He said to just get my car and get out of there. Well i couldn't do that as my brake system had already been stripped. As they told me it was against the law for them to put it back together and let me drive it this way. I wish now i would have just had it towed. They called a couple of places for the master cylinder $250.00 its now late in the day i would have to wait until the next day for my car.
I called back my mechanic when i got home told him the prices they were charging me for rotors double i might add he told me what i should be paying i relayed this and that's what I paid (the lessar price). The master ended up being $350.00 the rush price. My total bill was $587.12 well thanks to my mechanic and i did not have all this unnesasary repairs. I declined the others of course the work would not be guaranteed. I paid got my car and wouldnt you no my front end was shaking!
Well they never trued the rotors, its my understanding that this is part of what should be done. They told me after driving for 100 miles it would stop. I did take it back against my better judgement and they trued the rotors. I never said anything before i was so ashamed i could be taken advantage of like this but when i saw the news it brought back the shame and humiliation i felt and wanted to share to all who will read. Any ladys out there take a big man with you when getting repairs as we are primary targets for being RIPPED OFF! Thank You
