I have a 2000 Mazda Millenia and I brought it to Pep Boys to have a new knock sensor put in it to pass inspection. For one, I went myself to get a price for this and I was given a quote of $396.00. I brought my car there early on a saturday morning at 7:30am, becuase I was told that the labor would take from 3-5 hours. I was told that the car would be ready buy the afternoon and when I called to pick up my car around 4:00pm they said that the car hasn't been started on yet. So I waited until about 7:00pm and called back and they still didn't start on the car and told me to bring it back in the morning.
The second time I brought it back a few weeks later and this time my wife went in and now for the same service she was charged $476. I found it strange that the price fluctuated that much, but I needed to have my car fixed. The knock sensor was put in, but my check engine light was still on. They told me to drive the car for about 2-3 days and if the light stays on then bring it back to the dealership to have them reprogram the electrical system.
I did this and the local dealership saw the job that Pep Boys did and said that the sensor was put in incorrectly and that when it was installed, the wire leading from the sensor was pinched between the Cylinder Head and the Intake Manifold, which caused it to malfunction again. I paid the dealership $75 to look at the car and instantly called back Pep Boys for an explanation.
I contacted the store and spoke to a gentleman there and I faxed down the information from the dealership which said that it would cost me $600 to fix what Pep Boys didn't. The manager of the store location basically refused to speak to me and said that she would contact me back. Three days later they tell me to bring the car back in to fix, no charge. I get there and they never ordered the part and I saw the store manager and my wife confronted her on this situation and she was brushed off also.
I refuse to bring anything else that I own to Pep Boys to be fixed or recommend it to anybody else. I am extremely unsatisfied with the service that I received from this location and would like the number to the corporate office to file lawsuit...
