I purchased a vehicle from Household in the year of 2000. At which time I was not very wise upon interest rates and they offered me a very high interest rate while my credit was in amazing standing. I made payments monthly and on time each month. Then one day I received a call from the towing service stating that they were downstairs at my job with the constable to pick up my vehicle. I asked why and they said due to lack of payment. I had made sure that I paid each month and I had not received a notice from them. I made sure to make my payments with money orders so that I could keep up with the payments without having it hit my checking account and causing problems.
Household had managed to cash and lose 3 months of payments and stated that they never received them. It cost me $1500 that day to get my car back from the repossessor. But, because I had not kept up very good with my money order stubs I figured ok, my fault.
In October I awaken to go to work and realize my car is gone again. I call Household and they tell me that they repossessed my vehicle again for non payment. Well, I know that I had paid them but this time the stubs to my money orders were in the car which of course was no longer in my possession. I made arguement and even wanted to simply settle and pay them.
I went through the complete process for days and then was told that my car had been sold for a mere $2000 and they were expecting me to pay an additional $9000 for the car which was only $12000 when I bought it. Household managed to lose $2000 worth of payments and is now trying to hold me liable for paying. Household could have made more money allowing me to keep the car and being stupid enough to pay the fees they said I owed though I knew I did not owe them. However, I needed a vehicle and I am early 20's so I loved the car and felt I wanted to keep my responisbility.
I KNOW that Household Automotive is a ripoff and I would not recommend them to anyone. They will lose your payments, they will over charge you, they will lie and say that they can work with you and not do so. They will ruin your credit and it is not your fault. They should be shut down by the government, but they make the government too much money off of taking advantage of every day honest Americans!
