In September 1998, I purchased a Dodge Stratus from Sunshine Dodge in Melbourne, FL. I was told my financing was going to be through Household Automotive, I asked why not through Dodge Credit, I was told they were a branch of Dodge credit Corp. Previous I had financed two cars one through GMAC and the other through a local Bank in NY. Both were paid on time and in full.
Later, I found out the Household was a sub prime lender, for people with extremely poor credit, which I did not have. I have tried to refinance the loan with out success.
Last year when, I tried to purchase a new car, the dealer called for payoff and was told I owed apprx $ 9000, I called to see why since I had been paying for over 4 years and was told, you have a simple interest loan and for every day you are late we charge you interest. I told them I was never told this and was only advised of the late fee, which I paid whenever my loan was late.
Now a year later, I call for pay off and I am told I still owe 9K because of interest. I have made 12 payments in the past year, four for more then the payment amount. Something is terribly wrong; when over $4500 in a year only goes to interest.
I feel I the fraud began with the dealer, who put be through a sub prime lender and secondly Household is committing unfair business practices by using this type of loan, I would never pay it off.
I have tried to resolve this with them and they are very uncooperative I have called, written and fax their cooperated office and gotten no results. The only thing I have received are insults and hang-ups from them.
