Barry's Used Cars
Is A Rip-off

I bought a 93 Grand Am from Barry's in the middle of September.
The next day the service engine light came on and I took it back to Barry's. I spoke with Barry the owner himself and he told me "Oh, its okay drive it it's under warranty. So, after 2 weeks a hose busted on it and the auto start to run hot.

Barry's had the auto towed back to the Dealership and fixed the hose. About Three weeks later the temparture gauge was hitting near the over heating mark. Took to a shop to find out what was wrong by getting a diagnosis. They the shop called me and informed me that the head of the motor was cracked and something to due with the pressure. I then called Barry's and informed them of what the shop had told me. The shop called the warranty place and said that it did not cover all but the balance I would have to pay for the charges was $600.00.

I called Barry's for three weeks and asked when were they going to pay the balance. Barry's gave me the run around saying we have to get in contact with the owner. Every time I asked to speak with the owner they would always say he was unavailable.

I asked if they could give me a loaner car to drive my youngest son to his Chemo Theraphy. They gave me the first car and it would not hold oil, shocks were bad and ball joints and cut off. The second car they gave me it just cut off within and 1 hour after receiving the auto. Also, antifreeze started to run out of the car. Barry's had it towed back to the dealership. I called the next day to get another car and they said "NO" you can't get another car. I let them know that I had to get my son to Chemo the next day. They said that they would have the owner Barry call me at 3pm. He never called. I found a ride to take me up to Barry's.

There stood the owner Barry himself standing outside talking. Went to Barry and asked him what is going on with my car. He said "we have to check with the warranty agency to see why there would not cover the $600.00. Again, I asked what about another loaner car to get back and forth to take my son the Chemo. He asked if he went everyday. I informed him "No" only 1 day a week but transportation is need to get bills paid and keep food in my house. He still said to me he would not give me another loaner car. He then told me he would get back with me and never did.

2 to 3 days later I called the shop where the auto was to be fixed and they informed me. Barry's had called and told them to stop the work, they were going to try to put me in another auto instead of paying the $600.00.

The next week after calling Barry's spoke to a employee by the name of JR. He said "Barry's going to put a whole new engine in the car because they got the car for only $800.00 and they did not know if that would solve the problem. This gave him plenty of time to call there other Used Lot and get an okay from the manager Bob to pay the $600.00. Picked the car up 4 days later hoping my auto was fixed and I would have no more problems.

A week and 1/2 later the car cut off. This almost made me hit another car due to the steering wheel locking up on me. The car also would take 4 quarts of oil a day in which I had to put in (costly $). Called the shop and took it back. They said it need a oil collector and they replaced per the receipt the crank shaft as well.

After picking the car off from the shop it was cutting off. I took it back to the shop and they could not pick up any reading to tell what the problem was the their diagnosis equipment. The manager informed me that his equipment was able to pick up readings for autos up to 2000 year autos. He said it was some of the most expensive equipment and it was not telling them anything. I then called and spoke JR again but the voice sounded like the owner JR. I let him know the situation and let him know my frustration.informed him that I had already paid in notes $1600.00 and still owed $2000.00 on the auto.

After I informed him that I no longer want to speak to him I wanted to speak to Barry the owner. JR hung up on me in my face. I called back the next day and spoke to a lady. I believe she is the owners wife. I had my sister on the 3-way to listen because she had some questions for the owner. I asked if Barry's could pick the car up from the shop which is only 1/2 mile way. She asked 2 times if there were any charges that were due to the shop.

I informed her that all was paid for and nothing is due. She put me on hold and came back on the phone and said "yes" they can pick it up. She wanted to know also if it would be okay that the car would be held for 3 to 4 days. They were going to have their mechanic look at the car.

My sister then spoke up on the line. My sister asked how can a business have someone pay for an auto that have so many problems. Also, she said that she was very distured to receive a phone call from me upset because of all these auto problems. The Lady then said "we don't have to pick up the auto".

My sister then asked that because she asked questions and voiced her concers that now they are not going to pick up the car. The lady said "Okay have a nice day" and hung up on me.

I went to get my car from the shop 2 days later. I stopped at the other used car lot of Barry's and spoke with Bob to see if he could get in touch with the owner. He said "no, he is out of town". I let him know my name and he said oh yes I remeber the situation. I decided that I was not going to get anywhere and let him know that I would see them in court. I have decided to just take them to small claims court. My main concern is that this screws up me getting my son to Chemo Theraphy as needed and that anything could happen in the middle of the night. Yet, this Barry's Used Car has not care in the would of my situation. This is my story and I hope that others would read this will know to not get an auto from this Used Car Lot.
