A friend of our family and Insurance Agent at A Auto Insurance World in Stuart Florida originally set us up with Bristol West on our old car which was a 2001 VW Bug. The insurance was fair and cheap because it was not full coverage. When we SOLD our VW BUG and came into a NON-FINANCED 2007 Chevy HHR, we called to switch cars and coverages, as well as our address. We had been shopping around for Full Coverage on our new vehicle and got a quote of $1350 from another insurance agency. My wife told Bristol this and said if it was much more we were going to switch to someone else.
Bare in mind we had $900 which we had already paid to Bristol on our old policy when it was time to renew. We paid that policies renewal in FULL which came to about $870 Dollars (for 6 months for the BUG). About a week after that was paid (which would have given us a paid in full 6 month policy on The Bug) we aquired our new vehicle. AGAIN, we told the agent on the phone our limit for the price. The agent came back and told us a figure of $1375 so we figured we would stay on with Bristol so our Agent could get her rip, we would have insurance at the price we wanted and everyone would be happy.
NOW - The $1300 limit came from shopping around. Another car insurance company quoted us $1300 fro six months and that is where our limit and decision had come from.
Bristol's agent at the time told us we were actually getting a great discount with our new address in SUNRISE and it caused our policy to decrease in price. My wife was happy and left the conversation with the agent BELIEVING we had only one more payment of 500 Dollars to pay off the policy for 6 MONTHS.
Now here we are 2 months later expecting our first bill to be for $500 to PAY OFF THE POLICY.
Instead the bill showed that we owed 3 PAYMENTS OF 500 for a POLICY THAT TOTALLED $2700 FOR SIX MONTHS!!!
When we called to try to rectify the situation we were told that it was our family agent we needed to talk to EVEN THOUGH THE SETTING OF OUR NEW POLICY WAS DONE ON THE PHONE WITH BRISTOL DIRECTLY!!!
We spoke with two agents from Bristol - One had said the major price increase that nearly doubled the policy was the ADDRESS CHANGE!!! The very same address change which the other rep said would REDUCE the price of our policy!!! They also told us that part of the large BILL was that our family friend AGENT at A AUto Insurance World in STUART was getting $600 to Underwrite the policy.
In calling Our friend in Stuart, She told us that the address change that My wife had done DIRECTLY with Bristol West, The one which the Bristol West Agent told my wife would DECREASE the policy price HAD IN FACT DOUBLED IT!!!
Our Insurance Agent Friend than told us there was nothing she could do to rectify the situation and that it was inaccurate that she was getting $600 for underwriting the policy-PLUS that is HIGHLY ILLEGAL for BRISTOL to disclose the actual underwriting fee's between her (the agent) and the company (Bristol West).
Bristol West Told us to talk to the agent to straighten it out, The Agent said we would need to talk to Bristol to straighten it out.
Our family is on food stamps and living off of charity and family contribution. We were mislead by bristol on the price of our policy! Noone seems to be able to do anything but point fingers while we are out the $900 we already paid which only covered two months of insurance.
Every other company quoted us $1200-$1400 for a 6 month full coverage policy!
Bristol west seems to think $2700 is a fair price for six months of insurance! That is double everyone else!
The worst part is that the Bristol Agent Mislead my wife on the phone and had her believing we were only paying $100 more than what we wanted to pay, and we ONLY agreed to that because we wanted to see our friend at A AUTO INSURANCE WORLD in STUART get her cut.
Bristol West Deceived US, and than blamed it on our AGENT and FAMILY FRIEND, JULIA CAVASOS.
