UNIVERSITY VOLKSWAGEN - UNIVERSITY MAZDA ripoff, bait and switch, cheat, lie, attempted scam. This dealership is absolutely bankrupt of ethics and integrity

This message is to bring to your attention the unethical and abhorrent sales procedures being used by one of their dealers.

I spent a Saturday at this dealership, and left with a signed sales agreement for a 2003 Mazda6. The price listed on the windshield was $16,722 after rebates. I was then told this price included a Mazda loyalty rebate, I had sold my last Mazda previously, so the agreed upon price was $17,922. Great, I bought the car and offered to put down a $6700 deposit. Oddly enough, they said this was not necessary, that my wife could get the car on Monday.

I left the dealership after closing time, and they are not open on Sunday, otherwise I would have gotten the car the next day. My wife went down to the dealership on Monday, as soon as it was open to get the car.

She called me at my workplace and was very upset. The sales manager had just informed her the car was not there, but sold to another party. Here is where the sleaze enters the scene. They offered to sell us another vehicle, but for $1900 more, the old bait and switch. They claimed the car had been sold to someone else, after hours. The sales manager said this happens all the time and could not understand why I was angry.

I asked him if I was required to sleep in the car to prevent him selling it from under me, and he replied he will sell any car to anyone who offers more money, regardless if a deal is in place or not. This was very surprising to hear and absolutely disgusted me. If they had already sold this car to another party, why not tell us instead of having my wife go all the way there? The situation was insulting to our intelligence.

After we refused the blatant attempt to extort more money from us, the sales manager had the gall to call me later in the day to tell me the car was never sold to anyone else, and was still available! This was increasingly insulting and I asked for an explanation. He stammered a few sentences of nonsense, every time he was caught in a lie, he created more.

This entire experience has completely turned me off from ever purchasing a Mazda, as it is your responsibility to ensure dealer integrity and this dealership is absolutely bankrupt of ethics and integrity. The aloof approach to lying and cheating was very upsetting and we are currently considering further actions.
