Big Money Making Towing Scam

I belong to a boxing gym on Platte Ave. Many evenings I have a hard time finding a parking spot in the evenings, due to the concerts going on at the Black Sheep. After driving around the block several times, I decided to park in a parking spot on Prairie Street across from Trinity Motors at 7:30 P.M. Although the parking lot was marked customer parking only, I verified that the business was closed for the evening. When I came out of boxing my car was gone. I called the number listed on the sign and the man that answered told me that he would be right out. I thought that this is very strange. The man came out of an office right next door to the building I was parked at. He told me that my car was towed and was sitting in their lot, right behind the office, 50 feet away from where I parked. He proceeded to tell me that I had to pay them $250 in cash to get my car out. I told him that I did not have that much cash on me, and he basically told me "oh well, I can't release your car until you pay me the cash." I practically begged them to let me use my credit card, so that I would not have to walk down Platte Avenue late at night to get cash from an ATM. They would not budge, and I was stranded at 9 at night. I finally got the money and paid them the $250.00 in cash to get my car out. After talking to the police, they said that Absolute Towing does this to many people every night, but it is out of their hands.

The next day I talked to the owner of the business and asked her if they called to have my car towed. She said that the owner of the property monitors the parking lot and has all cars towed from there. Since it was late at night, I doubt the owner of the building was there to see my car parked there. I believe that Absolute Towing called the owner, or the owner of Absolute Towing is the owner of the building and it is a money making business.

After reading about other people's horrible experience with Absolute Towing and the painful experience I went through, my thoughts are that Absolute Towing teams up with building owners to split the proceeds of cars they tow. I plan on taking more time out of my evenings to sit across the street and stop people from parking there so that they do not get ripped off, and Absolute Towing doesn't make a dime that evening! I wonder the same question that someone already wrote: are they claiming all the cash they make on their income taxes? Are businesses legally able to only request cash? Times are tough right now, and these unethical people at Absolute Towing are finding a new way of capitalizing on innocent, unsuspecting human beings, who don't deserve to lose their money to a scandalous business.
