I took my car into Just Brakes to have my brake pads replaced. I believe in preventive maintenance and knew it was coming up on the time to replace my pads.
At this point, my brakes worked great. No squeaks, noises, or problems existed before going to the shop. After the inspection, the technician told me that due to the flash burn on my brake pads, I would need to have all four callipars rebuilt. No one ever inspected the callipars, they assumed that the callipars were the problem due to the flash burnt pads.
I walked out paying $548.65. Three days later, the brakes are making a grinding noise as if metal is scraping against metal. I immediately called Just Brakes and took it to a location close to work, not the original store.
The technician at this location told me that the new pads were flash burned. This was due to debre on the rotors. He cleaned off the rotors and removed the flash burn from the pads. He said the callipars were not the cause of the flash burn.
The very next day, the same noise came back, this time worse than before. I called the Just Brakes location that I had the work done and scheduled a time to bring the car in the following morning. After bringing in the car at the appointment time, I had to wait 4 hours before they even got to my car.
I told the technician that the other Just Brakes location informed me that the callipars were not the cause of this problem, it was debre on the rotors. I further told him that I was ripped off in having my callipars rebuilt when they were working just fine before the rebuild. No one ever inspected them, they just assumed they were the problem. The manager of this location agreed that I was suckered into buying rebuilt callipars when they were probably working just fine.
After 5 hours, I was told that everything was working like it is supposed to and all they did was brush the rotors and clean off the flash burnt pads. This was twice in two days that somehow my pads were flash burnt. The technician could not give me any reason for the problem.
Due to the fact that my brakes were in great working order before this started, and the fact that I had two technicians from different locations tell me the same thing, I am charging Just Brakes with fraud in replacing parts that did not need replacing, endangering my life with poor quality work, and ripping me off for the extra money they got from doing the work.
I believe I am due a refund of $445.00, the amount of the callipar rebuild.
