I recently purchased a used vehicle which has Les Schwab tires which have 19K miles on them. The previous owner stated that the dealer had told him that the tires are the cause of some low speed noise. The car has had a thorough check in the last 3,000 miles. (ball joints, tie rods etc.) When I took the car into Les Schwab they said that the tires were cupped and obviously not taken care of. When I showed them the warranty, they pointed to the fact that it did not list that the tires were ever rotated. They said the only solution was to replace the tires.
Before leaving I had them rotate the tires. Even though I presented my warranty at the desk prior to having the tires rotated they did not sign the warranty. I talking to five other people (one my wife:-)) They told me Les Schwab did not sign their warranty either any of the times they have had the tires rotated.
In checking with the previous owner the tires were rotated and balanced twice in the last 19K and I have the receipts. I took the car to a different Les Schwab and they seemed more reasonable. They rotated the tires again (didn't sign the warranty:-) and said to try them for a while and bring it back if it does not work. It didn't fix it, but at least the second shop seems to be more flexible. They seem willing to try new tires on the car when they have more time.
To all you Les Schwab customers out there. BE SURE THEY SIGN THE WARRANTY when you take the car in and have the tires rotated frequently.
I am not sure I will be a customer of Les Schwab in the future... Still to be determined. (Incidentally I have 4 z800 ultras at home which have been rotated, but not signed off on at Les Schwab.
Les Schwab corporate needs to decide if a signed warranty is mandatory before replacing the tires. If it is make the customer's aware of this when they come in, otherwise it looks like they are avoiding their obligations!
