Mywife had her check engine light come on during a trip to south Floridafrom Atlanta. They stayed over in Ocala FL that night and in themorning took the car to the first place they could find which was ATL. She just wanted to read the codes from the computer and if it wasn'tanything major, then be on her way. The error code that was presentedto her was for a catalytic converter error, no big deal. I told her toget the oil changed and be on her way. After another hour I get a callfrom her that she let them (for $60 extra dollars) do a "completediagnostic" and that they now recommended $1600-$1900 worth of work tothe car. I spoke to the manager to find out what was so expensive andbasicly this is the run down of what they wanted to do.
Flushtransmission, flush/clean fuel system, replace 2 Cat converter sensors, replace all 4 spark plugs and replace valve cover gasket, change theoil.
They said they would have the car done in about 2-3 hours.
AfterI spoke to Patrick, I told my wife NOT to have any of those thingsdone. She said she was worried about the car and that they "already hadit taken apart so they may as well do the work".
What?! This is like $600 worth of work at most that I could do myself for muchcheaper, told my wife to make them put it back together and head downto Marco. The check engine light was no big deal.
Shewas crying and hysterical and so worked up that she could not thinkclearly, no Idea what they told her but long story short, $1600 latershe is back on the road after a few minor tune up issues.
Thesepeople sound very nice, but will do whatever it takes to separate youfrom your money. And they, like most other shops, love easilyfrightened women who are far away from home.
Car is an 04 Toyota Corolla, regularly maintained by Toyota of Roswell with about 100k miles on it.
