Smithtown Acura - Richard Kopplin
The King at misrepresenting the truth. Favorite words I didn't see that

Hi, I consider myself a very reasonable and extremely honest person. I saw an add on autotrader.com for a pre-owned Acura at Smithtown acura. Being out of town, the only choice I had was to call and receive information (my car was already sold and I needed a new one ASAP.) Spoke to a sales agent named Richard Kopplin countless times regarding this car. According to him "no dents, "dinks", or scratches on it and no rips or tears inside". I later faxed him a written checklist stating, verbatim, what he already told me verbally... He declined signing it stating he is "only a salesman and he can't do it nor would he want to."—but continued to adamantly state the "9-9.5/10" condition of this car. Richard was also kind enough to take pictures of the car. But of course not of any scratch or "dink".

Against my better judgment I made the trip from Ohio to New York via plane as the $31,250 seemed like a fabulous deal for a car in such great condition. Waited at the airport for about 45 minutes as Richard "was busy and hit alot of traffic"—mind you it was Saturday afternoon and it took the cab driver less than 20 to get me back to the airport.

Got back to the dealer and notice multiple scratches on the bumpers, crease on drivers side of the car (albeit small but noticeable), ripped leather on top of the center console, missing plastic piece on the side of the drivers seat and a few other random scratches on the car. Confronted Richard with this, as he had told me all week I need to get my paperwork in so "they can get the car ready", and his response was "I'm done".

Next, on to Manger Joe. Discussed this situation with him—his remedy was he could order the new parts for the inside and take off the labor charge from the cost of the car. Stating "that is all I can do". Joe also had stated the Richard did say, and should not have said, the car had no scratches, dings or ripped interior and that he probably "just didn't see them"—took me less than 5 minutes. Furthermore, Joe stated that this is a used car and it will have some blemishes&which I may have expected, however I was told by Richard "no dents, no "dinks", no tears/rips inside". Joe kept on stating what a great deal this was as it was below retail—however, I would have and planned on spending a little extra money to get something that was truly in 9-9.5/10 condition and not wasted over $500 and 12 hours of my time.

At this point, there was no way I could not justify giving, what I consider dishonest people, over $31,000 so I decided to go back to the airport. Of course, no one there was able to take me so I got a $40 cab ride. Just can't comprehend the ignorance of this situation&knowing I'm from out of town and knowing that I am particular (my checklist), why would pictures be taken of the things wrong with the car—Either he, Richard Kopplin, is extremely incompetent, blind or blatantly lies. I would make sure to get everything in writing before you deal with these people—however, they probably won't give it to you.
