I would NEVER recommend Speedway Auto to anyone!

I have bought more than a few cars in my day and dealt with many people.

I can honestly say that these people personified every description on what the "typical" used car sales place is like.

I saw a car that was a pretty good deal online. I called them and told them "if you can meet $XXXXX (price), I will come down and buy it." I didn't ask for anything unreasonable.

The salesperson on the phone said I talked to the manager and he said "we'll take care of you" I THEN said... No... I need to know from your manager if you can meet that price because I am driving 40 miles and am only willing to come down if you can meet that price.

He asked me to hold and talk with his manager. He told me "I just talked with the manager and he said come on down... Don't worry about it we'll take care of you". (my mistake for not locking in the exact wording I was looking for)

So I drive there... 40 miles... in traffic.

The car seems great. We went into the office to do paperwork and the manager raises the price from the price I offered (that he told me "don't worry about...") to around $450 higher.

I said..."LOOK You told me this would not be a problem and I drove all of the way down here because you agreed" He THEN said..."NO... I only said we'd take care of you"... I agreed that is what he said... But his response was clearly an agreement to accomodate my price request.

He said again..."I only said we'd take care of you".

I told him..."What exactly does we'll take care of you mean? So this was just a deceptive way to get a customer in here and not actually be honest with them?"... He shrugged his shoulders without answering me.

I did however buy the car due to it being in immaculate condition and still worth the price.

The car was a great deal even at the new price BUT that was not the point. His deceptiveness was seemingly indicative of what their whole way of doing business is about. (I only got the car at a good price because of the bad economy and their inability to sell it).

After the sale... My bank called ME and asked ME to call Speedway Auto because they were not returning the banks calls. That problem was solved but it should not have happened. The customer should not have to do the Auto Dealers job.

Now again...

After many weeks of owning this vehicle (and waiting for the registration) I get a call from a lady from Speedway Auto who told me...

"When you did your paperwork the registration paid was $200 but we see per your contract that registration is $250... Leaving you a balance owed of $50"

If I put $3000 DOWN on a car... (about 30%) isn't it not THEIR job to apply that money where it needs to go?

You would think so right? So why the $50 shake down?

If they screwed up and didn't alott where the money I gave them went correctly... It is THEIR responsibility to "eat it".

If you EVER get a chance to do business there and you DO WANT the typical used car sales headaches... THEN I would suggest go to Speedway Auto... BUT if you want a smooth experience with no problems... I would suggest to go ANYWHERE but there.

P.S. I found out AFTER buying the car that a co-worker had bought from there as well and he too had a horrible experience.
