Mazda Of Cool Springs
Voided my warranty without being able to determine what caused the problem

I am the owner of a 2006 MazdaSpeed6 with 15,500 miles currently on it. On April 13 while driving back to work the engine blew a rod out of the bottom of the block. I had the car towed to Mazda of Cool Springs where I purchased the car in order to have it repaired. Upon arrival at the dealership I was immediately notified by the service manager that due to the aftermarket parts installed on the car that the regional service manager would be voiding my warranty. When I questioned him as to which part had caused the failure he stated that he didn't know. I asked him to have the regional rep that made the decision call me so that I could discuss it with him. As of yet I have still not heard anything from him. I have called mazda's customer service line twice and explained to them the situation and have been told twice that the decision is final and that nothing else will be done. I have explained to all of them that federal law states that before they can void my warranty they have to prove that the parts installed on the car were the cause of the engine failure. As I have not been able to talk to anyone else, I have decided to make this complaint formal. I have spoken to a number of aftermarket parts dealers, installers and even to the company that fabricates the parts. All have said that the reason given for the engine failure is totally bogus and unsubstantiated. After doing more research from the 2.3 liter engine that mazda put into their 06 and 07 mazdaspeed3 and mazdaspeed6. There is countless documentation of this being a problem with these engines whether stock or modified. I spoke to the service manager again today an asked again what the cause of the engine failure was. He said that the only way for them to determine that is to take the engine apart. So that tells me that they are only guessing as to the cause and have voided my warrantly without any proof, voilating the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975. When I told him to tear it down and find out what happened he informed me that if they did then I would be liable for the $900 in labor for the tear down.
