I recieved a call from a good friend that lives in San Antonio about an estimate that seemed a little out there. I own a repair shop in New Braunfels so I asked her to fax me the estimate that she recieved from this Pep Boys. It's funny how they can lie and add additional things that do not need to be done to the customer and make them feel as if they have to be done. Our shop uses Mitchel1 to estimate how many hours it takes to repair something. She needed an intake manifold on a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis and it only calls for 4.8 hours. So I called and asked what the going labor is per hour there. ($94.00) which is more than just taking your car to the dealership. Not only that they estimated her labor to be 647.00. That does not add up at all to 4.8 hours at 94.00 per hour. I called and asked them why and they fed this BS that that includes the thermostat and they have to do a coolant flush and put some kind of Dye in the OIL??? First off the labor guide is there to include all nessary items that must be replaced when changing the intake manifold. The kit comes with gaskets and a thermostat. The icing that blows me away is BUYER BEWARE they only warranty parts and labor for 3 months. They want you to pay 70.00 to warranty the work tou just paid almost 100.00 per hour for to warranty 1 year. Pep Boys is a parts store right? Well when you get your car repaired there this little thing called mark up happens, it does with every shop but they are a parts store. They quoted her 404.00 for the intake manifold and 80.00 for intake gaskets. Funny thing is you as a consumer can go to Ford and buy that same part for 323.00 retail. I called another Pep Boys and found out they had the part in stock at the San Pedro location for 260.00. So watch out they mark the prices of the parts 50% when you get your car serviced there. A Fuel Filter that takes 5 minutes to do on her car they charge 80.00. The fuel filter costs 5.00 and I am a woman and it takes 5 minutes to replace it so can they explain how they can advertise that they have the lowest prices. Call them you will laugh because they answer the phones saying they have the lowest prices.
