I purchased a Ford Taurus 3 and a half years ago. The transmission on the car went out last week after only 58,000 miles of driving. I was shocked when I went to my dealer and found out that the pwoertrain warranty only covered 3 year/36,000 miles and I'd have to pay $2500 for an overhaul. I had piurchased in the past several Ford vehicles (Taurus, mustang, gran torino) and had never had transmission problems until I put over 100,000 miles on the car. I've owned a Hyundai and used thier 7/70000 power train warranty and now that Suzuki, Honda, Toyota and even US Chrysler all offer 7/70 or 10/100 on their powertrains. Why doesnt Ford back thier cars as well as overseas companies and Chrysler? Why cannot Ford build a transmission that will last more than 3.5 years? If I've owned 5 cars and never had transmission problems until 110,000 or more miles, so I do not think that it is not my driving style that caused the transmission to need to be overhauled.
As far as i am concerned, ford should go bankrupt because they cannot build or back thier cars as well as their competitors. Adapt or go extinct, ford cannot adapt so they need to be made extinct.
