I have my little 91 Pontiac Sunbird LE Convertible. I've always put the top up and down on, and off course it has a snap on cover to conceal the top when it is down. It's has always worked beautiful.
Any way some one put a little hole in my back plastic window, I called American Auto Trim to get a new back window. He told me it was a quit involved job as they would have to take my whole top off and it may be a couple days, I then asked if he'd have a loner car for me to use, if my car was not done by the end of the day and he said yes, He also quoted me a price of $350.00.
So anyway I take my car up to American Auto Trim in the morning, and the owner is saying you need a new top that one is starting to crack, I said it's fine and he keep pushing the issue, I told him I am unemployed so I can't come up with the extra money, so the he said when we take the top off it might crack worst better get a new top, THESE ARE LITTLE CRACKS JUST A FEW OF THEM AND THEY ARE NOT THROUGH AND DON'T LEAK.
So finally he got it through his head, back window only! So I left my car there in the morning, by that evening it was done and it was not $350.00, they billed by insurance company a couple hundred more almost as much as a new top would of been.
So with it being winter I did not try to put my top down when I picked it up, Well we got some nice days here, so I tried to put my top down, "WHAT A JOKE "it does not go all the way down it rests on top of my back seat I can't use my snap cover and the new back window got ripples in it from trying to stretch to go down and all of the top brackets are sticking up it IT"S LOOKS LIKE HELL" AND I FEEL THE NEW BACK WINDOW IS GONNA BREAK.
So I took my husband with me up there and confronted AMERICAN AUTO TRIM owner, about these problems. Then he said it's because the weather isn't warm enough, (yet we're driving in t - shirts with top down). Then I pointed out that the top has always worked fine and that I can't even use my snap cover, that it looks like hell and about I'm afraid it's gonna wreck the new back window. And that the top is rests on top of the back seat and never has.
Then he said "that they never took the top off". And my problem was "just a coincidence". And that it should get better when the weather is warm. If you could see what this looks like then you'd know warm weather has nothing to do with it. Cool weather has never bothered it before as I've had this car for a few years.
First he said he'd have to take the top off, then he said he didn't. Then how did he sew in the back window???
Then after trying to sucker me in to a new top as he was afraid it might crack some more when he was taking it off, why was he worried about it when he said he didn"t take it off???
Why did he jack up the price to my insurance company???
I do not want this S.O.B. To touch my car again but I want it fixed at my choice of business and him to pay for it!!!
This is no coincidence, as the top doesn't just lay on the back seat instead of going down in the back of it, buy it self. I will put a sign on my car when the top is down saying " YES THIS TOP LOOKS FUNNY, THANKS TO AMERICAN AUTO TRIM"
All of these conversations I had was with the owner him self.
