Edd's Auto Trim
Consumer Report

I took my 2003 Volkswagen Beetle convertible to this business on Monday, June 17th so they could glue my glass window to the convertible top along the bottom portion which had started to separate. I was told to call back on Tuesday, June 18th to see if it was ready to be picked up. When I called I was told that the top had been repaired successfully, but they wanted to keep the car one more day so the glue would have a longer drying time since there was no sunlight on Tuesday. They advised me that I should consider selling the car asap since they couldn't guarantee how long the glue would hold. The owner suggested I consider getting a new top which he could order and put in for me. He told me at that time that he would call and get a price for a new top and call me back. This was at 12:16 PM. The owner called me back at 1:00 PM and gave me an estimate at 1:00 PM and reported that a new top would cost $2,634.00 and he told me where he was ordering it from and the brand name. I told the owner to order the top and gave him my credit card information. I contacted my husband to let him know the cost, brand and the company he was ordering it from. My husband called me back within 30 minutes and told me we could order the exact same top from the same company for $629.00 with free shipping. Since I realized how I was being taken advantage of, my husband called the owner of Edd's Auto Trim at 2:34 and told him to cancel the order since he could order the same top for $629.00. The owner became very upset with my husband and told him that the back window of my car was NOT fixed yet and that the window was completely out of the car (even though he had already told me that my car was ready to pick up). The owner then told my husband that he would charge us a 10% restocking fee plus credit card charges even though the top had not been shipped yet. When I went to pick my car up on Wednesday, June 19th the owner told me I would have to pay the restocking fee or I couldn't have my car back. I told him I would not pay a restocking fee since the top hadn't been shipped out prior to my husband cancelling the order. Then the owner's wife came into the front office and they disappeared into another office for approximately five minutes. The owner then came out and said I would have to pay the credit card charges which he said totaled $92.34 but he wouldn't charge me a restocking fee. Once again he told me I could not take my car until I paid this amount to him. I then took my checkbook out to pay him and he said he wouldn't accept a check that I would have to pay in cash. I paid with a $100 bill and then I ask how they came up with that amount. The wife said it represented 3.5% of the total charge plus. 15. I told her if they had credited the charge the same day prior to batching out at the end of the day, their credit card company would not have charged anything. (I use to have my own business in Knoxville before I retired). This company is the most dishonest I've ever dealt with. The owner lied to me and to my husband regarding his work. Unfortunately for me, when he did bring me my car, the convertible top had been cut on both sides around the window and the window was completely separated from the top which is NOT how it was when I brought it to them. This owner deliberately caused this damage to my car out of spite because we cancelled the order. I am contacting an attorney regarding the damage they caused to my car.
