All of my problems began when I saw a listing for a 2002 Subaru WRX on Autotrader.com. The one that I wanted was already sold. But they claimed they had one that was just as good. I live in NY and the dealership is in Connecticut. The dealer on the phone reassured me that they sell vehicles out of state all the time and could have the car ready same day if I was interested.
I made the mistake of putting a down-payment on the car to buy it. He then came out to see me to say that the car would have to be deivered the next day. The car wasn't brought to me until a week or two later. When I first went to start the car I noticed the check engine light was on. I called them about it and they said that I could drive it to them to have them look at it. I considered it.
The next day on the way home from work the alternator died along with the battery. I was on the side of a busy highway in the middle of rush hour. After pushing the car to the side of the road I called them and they told me they could not tow the car to have the alternator changed. It was $400 I was forced to have the work done here in NY.
After that was fixed I thought all I needed was an inspection. I was driving home at night though a few days later, and the car stopped running and wouldn't turn over. The fuse to the ECU was blown. Even after subsequent attempts to put in new fuses, they would blow out.
I called the dealership and spoke to the owner, he told me they would not pay for towing to the dealership. I pay for half of the $400 towing bill. One week later I found out they didn't do the pay-off on the car I traded in on time. I had my payment of $360 deducted from my account. They wouldn't give this full amount back to me even though it was their fault.
They "fixed" the car claiming that all that was needed was new vaccum lines and headlights. They did not tell me how the electrical problem was fixed. After I drove it back to my home, it sat in my driveway for about a month while I waited for the title in the mail. Once I got it I registered the car and planned to get it inspected. To my dismay, the check engine light reappears. I take it to get re-inspected and they tell me that I just need to tighten the gas cap. They have me do this 3-times before we begin to realize there is something seriously wrong.
I then bring the car to a Subaru dealership that specializes in working on this car. They do a thorough inspection of the car and notice that the car does not have any thing wrong that would cause it to show this engine light. They notice also that noe of the catalytic converters are on the car. The wiring of the car is damaged. Also Many of the parts are welded into place instead of being put there properly. The Subaru dealership told me that it will cost me thousands to get this car to pass! This is unthinkable considering the fact I am already severly upside-down on the loan.
