My company recently rented two vehicles from the Bostos Logan Airport location for Budget Rent a Car. We needed the vehicles for one week for a job we were doing, we rentred a Lincoln Town Car and a Mercury Gran Marqius. I personally rented the Mercury and the stated charge for a week was $399.75, I added a GPS; $97.65, the gas coverage; $47.48 and the additional insurance coverage that was quoted to me at 12.44 per day ($87.08) for the week. On my planet those charges come out to $631.96.
When I turned the vehicle in exactly one week later the Budget billed me $1,377.77. When I remarked that this was slightly higher than it should be I was told that the charges were correct, end of story.
I was charged a one way fee even though I returned to vehicle to the same place I rented it, two extra days even though I had the car for exactly one week, apparently, according the the thief, sorry, the Budget employee behind the counter, I picked the car up at 10:30 am and returned it at 2:30 pm and somehow, in her world, that resulted in an additional two day charge.
I had agreed to the additional insurance (12.44 pr day), they took that to mean they could tack on things called LDW, PAE, ESP, bodily injury coverage etc. That I never agreed to and was charged for twice, a second driver charge, an 11% fee ($128.61) that never was explained to me, and on and on and on until the bill ended up being more than twice what I'd been quoted.
They knew I was renting through my company and figured (correctly as it turned out) that I would let it go because of that and that apparently gave them the right to steal from me. I argued for as along as I could because I had places to be.
Oh, the Town Car you ask? That was $1,300 and change too, all the same charges. So now our client, who we were forced to pass the charges along to is not happy, and neither are we.
I sent an email to Budget customer relations asking for an explanation and never got a response, of any kind.
I'm 50 years old, I've been in the business world for a long long time, I travel quite a bit and rent cars often, I have NEVER seen anything like this in my life and neither had anyone else in my office. Budget Rent a Car basically stole $745.81 from my company, and roughly the same amount for the second car, there's just no other word for it, they stole that money from us through dishonest and unethical business practices. I'm still amazed by it because as I said, I've never seen anything like it before. A $600 rental costing almost $1,400 dollars. They would have been more honest if the counter person had just stuck a gun in my face and taken my wallet when I turned the car in. Because that's about what this amounted to.
DO NOT rent from these people, they are thiefs pure and simple.
