To set the stage for my story, first I have to say that we lived in Indiana all our lives before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada! And back in Indiana business is conducted more honestly then in Las Vegas! Not to say that there are no honest people in this town, but by in large I have found that there is no place like this town for dishonesty!
In need of a car that would run we stopped by a Bill Heard tent sale, in fact it was in the Wal-mart parking lot. So, having to do some grocery shopping we decided to look around. Our old cars had nickeled and dimed us to the extent that they ran on a pray every day!
We were approached by a sales person, who told us that he was really a manager but was helping out the sales personnel. Now, if I were in sales, that would be the last thing I would want was a manager taking my sales away. At that point we should have walked away... But we didn't.
Of course we all know that dealers jack prices up so there is some discussion back and forth concerning prices. Once the price had been debated and settled upon our "Sales" person went to the financil personnel and a credit history was pulled, which we saw and the interest rate was told to us. We asked for a lower rate and was given the lower rate. We then signed papers and took the car home. Wow, it was great! A Dodge Caravan just right for kids and grandkids! It was much different then the 86 Prelude and it ran!!!
Back where we come from... The dealer lets you take the car when and only when you have been approved. So, of course we thought we had been approved. And besides what idiot would give you a car without financial approval! Of course the finance department
didn't say there may be a problem! I guess I thought they were the experts so I had no concerns about the possibility of what was about to occur.
After 3 weeks of ownership we get a call from the financial department stating there was a problem with approval. We were told that we needed to come back right away. After a few words back and forth with the finance department it was clear that this is something they do on a regualar basis in Nevada. You are given the car, if financing doesn't work out, you bring the car back or pay out more money in a down payment and in our case it was both pay more and our interest rate went up 3% higher.
I wanted to give the car back, however our other car was not running and it didn't look like it would ever run again. So, we went along with there deal. Our credit had suffered some because of lay-offs and huge medical bills so I was concerned that this might be the only deal we would get! And they knew this. They were rude, inconsiderate and just plain jerks. I have to admit that I did get a little upset myself, reported the manager and finally spoke to someone that was a bit less of an ass. All in all our payment went up $75.00 a month and 3% increase in the interest rate.
We feel that Bill Heard does this on a regular basis and we were told that this is not something unusual in this state. We feel that this is totally dishonest!
And besides that... The van is not running because of some problem, so the next issue may just be the warranty!
I guess we should have done more homework, but one would think that as big as Bill Heard is they would be honest. I guess they do so much in volume it has become just a numbers game to them.
