I called the night before to check on a car (1998 Honda Civic). I was told the details about the car and decided to drive up to Cleveland from Mogadore (near N Canton). I researched the internet and ran a Carfax report. Everything seemed on the up and up.
Upon arriving on the lot, I was told immediately that this was a no pressure sales business. Yet every time I approached a sales associate, they informed me that someone was already interested in the same car.
I looked at the car, my daughter was interested in it and the price was within our range. The tag on the car was $1000 higher than the internet price (Autotrader.com). They said they would honor the internet price. I asked to take the car to my mechanic in Mogadore. They agreed and the following day, I did so (an hour drive each way). Right before I got into the car, the sales associate received a call. Said that a woman who had seen the car that morning wanted to put a deposit on the car, however she was not on the lot (how convenient that the phone rang as I was entering the car) so they still let me take it.
The car was basically sound. The only concerns were whether the timing belt had been replaced at 105,000 miles (as stated in the maintenance book) and the steering alignment needed corrected.
When I returned the car, I asked to speak to the sales associate to begin negotiating. I mentioned the work that needed to be done and they came down a couple hundred dollars. I asked to step out and make a quick phone call to call my wife and daughter to run the deal past them.
In the midst of negotiating and while I was still on the phone, the sales manager came out and shouted out at me to forget it that the car was already sold - a woman just handed him a check.
Apparently he sold the car right out from under me as I was negotiating on it!
I invested several hours driving back and forth to Cleveland only to be treated ridiculously atrocious. We exchanged some words about wasting my time and I proceeded to leave. I had never been treated so deceptively and rudely as they had done to me.
I only wish that others know about their deceptive and rude antics so that no one else would be subjected to that...
No way do/will they ever measure up to be an ethical company.
