Failed re-built transmission

Red D Transmission re-built our Ford Windstar 2000 Transmission for $2,777 on May. The transmission has now (June) failed only after 40,000 miles of driving the car. We took back the car to Red D Transmission to determine what could have gone so wrong so fast. The vehicle has been well maintained and the oil leak has been showing only recently. Recent check by Roseville Ford of a "Check Engine" light had resulted into $659 repair of the intake manifold, and a general diagnostics of the car didn't show issues with the transmission. The manager at the front desk (Dana) of Red D acknowledged failure of a re-built transmission after 40,000 miles is UNUSUAL. We also believed the failure is highly unusual and not acceptable considering the low mileage the car has been driven since the transmission was rebuilt. Still, in the interest of fairness and because the warranty had expired one year ago, we offered to pay some of the repair if Red D was willing to meet us half way. Red D came up with a wholesale $1800 offer to be paid by us. We couldn't possibly accept the offer because we believe the original re-built transmission should have been working for much longer than 40,000 miles in the first place, and we were only trying to speed up things by offering to meet them half way. We offered $1,000 for the new repairs but Red D rejected our offer. We believe Red D Transmission quality of work is very questionable, and its customer service absolutely dismal. Consumers deserve to get a reasonable service for the money their money.
