Mike Shad Chrysler, Jeep
Failure to repair vehicle after several charges / visits

On May 12 my wife took her 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo to Mike Shad Chrysler, Jeep, 1736 Cassat Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida to get the transmission looked at as she had been experiencing some slipping of the transmission during normal operation. The vehicle was promised to be repaired by 5:00pm on May 12th; however, was not returned until May 14. According to the invoice they checked and found the transmission low on transmission fluid by 1.5 quarts and found a leak at the transmission lines which were replaced. Cost of repairs was $250.00 for labor and $178.91 for parts. According to the invoice the vehicle was not test driven as the in/out mileage was the same (197756). Shortly after that, she began experiencing the transmission slipping again. On May 27th, she took it back to Mike Shad Chrysler, Jeep and they again looked at it and adjusted the throttle cable. Again, according to the invoice the Jeep was not test driven as the mileage in/out was the same (198389). Within a few days when my wife was on her way to work she began experiencing the transmission slipping yet again. I then called the Service Manager for Mike Shad Chrysler, Jeep (Russ) and spoke to him and told him that I was displeased with the service we were receiving and us having to keep returning the vehicle to try to fix the vehicle. Russ told me that the transmission would have to be overhauled and the cost would be $1,600. Russ asked for me to let him know if we were going to pursue the overhaul as he would need to order the parts so that they would be in and they could get our vehicle fixed and back to us within a day or two. A couple of hours later I called and spoke to Russ and informed him that we would like for the transmission to be overhauled. On June 2nd, my wife returned to Mike Shad Chrysler, Jeep and left our Jeep to have the transmission overhauled. The dealership did provide us with a rental car so we wouldn't have to keep shuttling vehicles. The vehicle was promised to be completed on June 3rd, per the invoice. On June 12th, my wife was contacted and informed that the Jeep was fixed and ready to be picked up. My wife then went to the dealership and paid $1,777.33 for the service. When entering the Jeep my wife noticed that there was a lot of grease and dirt inside the vehicle and had to ask the Service Advisor to clean it. On the way home from the dealership my wife drove approximately 15 miles and the transmission began slipping again. She then called the dealership and spoke with the Service Advisor and informed him of the situation. He instructed her to return the Jeep to the dealership and that they would pay for a wrecker if she couldn't make it back. She was able to make it back to the dealership and they checked the vehicle back in again. She was then given the rental car back. On June 13th, I went to the dealership and met with Russ and the General Manager, John Bobango. John mostly stood there while Russ and I discussed the situation. I told Russ that I was not comfortable with what was going on with the vehicle and that I wanted it to be fixed. Russ assured me that they would indeed get it fixed. Russ indicated to me that the problem was the throttle body and that they were awaiting the part which was being shipped from Detroit and that they expected it in the next day. I informed both Russ and John that I was contemplating filing a complaint with the State of Florida Division of Consumer Services. On June 19th, I was contacted by Russ and informed they had fixed the transmission; however, he recommended that we get the radiator replaced as the Jeep was running warm as the engine temperature went up to 227 degrees and the transmission temperature was 248. I told Russ that I would look at it and take it under advisement. My wife then picked up the Jeep at the dealership that afternoon and returned home. The next day I decided to flush the cooling system to include the radiator and see if that would help the Jeep run cooler. After flushing the cooling system and radiator I noticed that the vehicle was running just a little warm. The maximum temperature that I achieved from watching the temperature gauge inside the vehicle was 215 216 degrees and normal operating temperature is around 210. On June 25th my wife on her way to work experienced the Jeep bucking and lunging after driving just a mile from our house. She continued to work hoping that the vehicle would get better. On her way to work she noticed that the transmission began slipping again. She called me and I told her to call Russ at Mike Shad Chrysler, Jeep to let him know what was going on and to get the radiator replaced. When she arrived on that afternoon she asked the service advisor how much it would cost to get the radiator replaced and he couldn't tell her but he stated that they would let her know. On June 27th my wife called and spoke the Service Advisor, Dave and asked if the Jeep was ready and how much it was going to cost. Dave instructed her that they encountered another problem and the Jeep would not be ready to be picked up and he also was not sure how much the dealership was going to charge for the radiator replacement. On June 28th my wife and I went to Mike Shad Chrysler, Jeep to meet with the General Manager, again to voice our concerns about our vehicle not being repaired. At this point I informed John that I was going to file a complaint with the State of Florida Division of Consumer Services. While in his office he called Russ and spoke with him on the phone. Russ indicated that he had given me an estimate of $210.00 to replace the radiator. I told the General Manager that Russ had never furnished me or my wife a quote to replace the radiator and that by his dealership not providing us a quote was a violation of state law. John told us that he would meet with Russ on the morning of June 30th to see how to rectify the situation. At this point I feel that Mike Shad Chrysler, Jeep is "fishing" for the problem while charging us for non-solutions.
